Did Shirley Sherrod really overcome her racism?

Did anyone hear ALL of her speech? Has anyone heard her husband’s racist words?

Check it out:

But what about the rest of Shirley Sherrod’s NAACP speech?

She made this observation about those who opposed ObamaCare: “I haven’t seen such mean-spirited people as I’ve seen lately over this issue of health care. Some of the racism we thought was buried. Didn’t it surface? (Audience responds approvingly.) Now, we endured eight years of the Bushes, and we didn’t do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black president.”

So the self-proclaimed colorblind woman attributes legitimate opposition to the government takeover of health care … to racism.

And what motivated Breitbart to post the out-of-context excerpt? Was Breitbart erroneously, but in good faith, using it to hold the NAACP to the same standard the organization asks of the Tea Party? Not according to Sherrod. She told CNN: “I know I’ve gotten past black vs. white. He’s probably the person who’s never gotten past it and never attempted to get past it. … I think he would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he’d like to see all black people end up again. … I think that’s why he’s so vicious against a black president, you know. He would go after me. I don’t think it was even the NAACP he was totally after. I think he was after a black president.”

This from someone who’s “gotten past black vs. white”?

Her husband, the Rev. Sherrod, spoke this year at the University of Virginia School of Law. In the half-hour excerpt posted on YouTube, he talks about the evolution of the black struggle for freedom and equality and about his personal experiences with prejudice and brutality. He said he found inspiration from the Rev. Martin Luther King’s vision of a society that judges people by the content of their character. But the Rev. Sherrod later said: “Finally, we must stop the white man and his Uncle Toms from stealing our elections. We must not be afraid to vote black, and we must not be afraid to turn a black out who votes against our interests.” He provided no example, explanation or elaboration.

Breitbart erred in not viewing the entire NAACP speech. But neither this nor the past racist experiences of Shirley and Charles Sherrod justify giving them a pass for their own racist comments.

Modern feminism vs. original feminism?

Ok guys, so most of the men on here hate “modern” feminists, those who believe that women are superior to men (god knows we have the right to, considering how men believed they were superior to women for thousands of years…)

My question is, do you just hate modern feminism and support traditional feminism, which wants equality for the sexes and gives women the same freedoms as men, or do you hate them both and think that women should go back to the kitchen?
Guns_Fan, I was asking whether you supported modern feminism or original feminism. Original feminism supported equality, dumbass.
BigE, I love to stomp on guy’s marbles. It gives them a taste of the pain that we have to go through.
Cliffie, I do have one male friend, and he is gay. That’s how I like my men—gay. I don’t feel threatened by them.

Presidential Election…??

I know this is sure to inflame some people, but I need to know how any average american citizen can even consider voting for McCain?? The war was a gigantic mistake. Who doesn’t know this? McCain has been quoted as saying he will stay in Iraq for 100 years…why?? He is endorsed by and follows many of the same ideas as Bush. Who doesn’t know what this thought process has done to our country?? Not to mention that McCain wants to overturn Roe Vs. Wade. This can not be allowed to happen. It takes women so many years into the past. Young women need to pay attention. He does have the power to do it. He will have control of the supreme court. That would be damaging to women’s rights We do need a change. Barack Obama is the epitome of the ideals that this country was formed upon. Freedom. Equality. We can not as a country continue to preach it but not live by it. We need someone fresh and young and motivated by possibilities. Where is the hope for the future? A breath if fresh air is what this country needs. Experience certainly does not equal better quality. One last statement…For those of you who refer to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama, I hope you are not a racist or a bigot who is too afraid to say it’s about the color of his skin. That should be our last thought right now. Everyone should be thinking of ways to keep crooked politics out of the white house. Patriotism is an often misunderstood word. Vote Obama…
Eagleswings41,

I knew this subject would inflame some people but I was not rude. I didn’t find it necessary for you to call me stupid simply because my opinion differs from yours. I am educated and do not believe “holding hands…” would bring world peace. I simply do not believe that bickering, fighting, name calling, or starting war are the ways to solve problems. Also, 9/11 was caused by Osama bin Laden, not Iraq and Saddam Hussein. If our war was waged over 9/11 then it would have been with Afghanistan & Pakistan. I don’t understand why people can not see the correlation between the war, the oil companies, and Bush and his puppet masters. So now that I have followed up, I again want to say that I did not need to resort to name calling in an adult conversation. I hope that anyone else who replies is more polite despite differences.

What does “The south will rise again” mean?

This is a concern that I have because the south that fell was everything that America is not today. The United States of America is the land of equality, freedom, opportunity and justice. Equality, freedom, opportunity and justice don’t sound like the “old south” to me. And don’t get this misconstrued; I am not trying to make this a Black vs. White thing. Life just didn’t seem to be all that great for anyone in the south at that time. The north wasn’t much better. You don’t hear people calling out for the return of the old north. So what about the old south do some people really want to bring back when they say “The south will rise again”.

Manpower vs woman power?

Why does the term “woman power” indicate freedom, autonomy and empowerment while the term “manpower” presumes toil and hardship?

Is it odd that a slogan of woman’s equality assumes a tone of elitism while the term it is trying to “equal” assumes a tone of servitude?

The Argument of not saying “Under God” in the Pledge of allegiance would be part of what right:?

A) Majority Rule vs. Individual Right

B) Liberty vs. Equality

C) State Authority vs. National Authority

D) Civil Disobedience vs. Rule of Law

E) Freedom of the Press vs. The Right to a fair trial

F) Religion vs. Governement
