Organizations Answering President Bush’s “Call to Service” on the Tammy Says… Show – USA Freedom Corps & Business Strengthening America

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 20, 2004 –

– USA Freedom Corps, a coordinating council housed at the White House and chaired by President George W. Bush, and Business Strengthening America, the business community’s self-directed, non-partisan response to the President’s national “Call to Service”, will be on the Tammy Says… show on Monday, October 25th. Both organizations mission is to promote a culture of volunteerism (both workplace and civic), to get people engaged, or deepen their involvement in the community. The companies that have answered the “Call to Service” share a core belief that an increased commitment to volunteering and civic responsibility not only builds stronger communities, but it also helps businesses to “do well by doing good.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, volunteerism is on the rise with approximately 63.8 million Americans volunteering last year, up from 59.8 million the year before. Of this total number, 31.2% of employed persons volunteered. Many of the Fortune companies as well as small to mid-size companies have Community Service programs and departments which promote volunteerism efforts. Post 9-11 transformed this country from an “it’s all about me” culture to a culture of service and citizenship that looks like it is going to last. In fact, even the Tammy Says… show has volunteers who work for the greater cause: to bring information like this show to our audience.

Tammy Camper, Host of the Tammy Says… show says “after meeting with both USA Freedom Corps and Business Strengthening America, I knew we had to do a show on the amazing efforts of these two organizations. Not only does this help the communities where the efforts are being done, but on a deeper level, it brings big business and small business together on a different playing field.”

Business Strengthening America is a self-directed effort to engage thousands of America’s business leaders, from Fortune 500 corporations to small locally owned businesses, in a campaign to strengthen American society. USA Freedom Corps leads the efforts of more than 40 programs and initiatives that enable more Americans to serve those in need close to home and in countries around the world. Among these programs and initiatives are the Citizen Corps, Senior Corps, the Peace Corps and Volunteers for Prosperity. The “Call to Service” has been answered by the thousands through increased volunteer service, strengthening National Service programs, strengthening Homeland Security and emergency preparedness, recognition of dedicated volunteers, and challenging businesses to strengthen America.
