Are we turning more so and more so into an authoritarian government who does not allow freedom of religion?

Question by no vanilla for me: Are we turning more so and more so into an authoritarian government who does not allow freedom of religion?
Or I should say, free expression of religion…What would make a teacher any more so influential than the president of the United State? Yet we allow the president to express his or her religious beliefs. And why shouldn’t we? Why shouldn’t all be allowed to pratice freedom of religion, why should we put restrictions on teachers?

We have plenty of freedom of Religion, but the tools will discriminate and hate you for it…. Unless you’re a Christian.

Doesn’t sound too much like religious freedom to me, but that is what they call it.

  • Prepare to get lambasted.
Actually, I agree with you, however, there are many people who feel it an insult to allow any religion or religious display in any public school. They “fear” it will be trying to influence their child into religious organizations and beliefs that they do not want them subjected to. There’s a part of me that understands their point, but another part of me that thinks that if they are so certain in their religious beliefs (or dismissal thereof) that they have nothing to fear.

  • The president does not use his religion as a policymaking tool, or use it as the primary decisionmaking process in his job. He uses the constitution. The only reason religion gets brought into it is because voters want to know.

Your teacher is free to express her religion, just as I am free to NOT have her religion expressed to me. If she can express her religion without effecting me, more power to her.

You’re allowed to express your religious beliefs. If you’re a public school teacher then you can’t just spew it to kids because this is a secular nation and NOT a theocracy. If you wish to teach your religion to kids get a job in a Christian school settings, but the public at large doesn’t want our schools to become your personal indoctrination centers.
I know you want Billy Graham as president with his henchmen as secretary of state, etc, but get over it. Bushco tried that and everyone is sick of it already. You might want to look up the term “secular”
All that aside this is a very authoritarian nation, but it has little if anything to do with religion. It’s a financial authoritarianism now. The rich control everything and until you get that through your soda straw way of thinking you will never understand..

  • Okay I’m a Pagan. I understand the frustration experienced with Christians fighting any change to their religious domination in this country. Companies tell employees to wish people Merry Christmas even if they don’t know what religion they practice. It is morally wrong for people to wish me Merry Christmas if I have my symbol of my faith around my neck. If I don’t have it out I say nothing but if I do have my Pentacle out in full view I ask them nicely how they determined I was Christian?

I support the removal of “In God WE Trust” from money….no god uses money churches do.
I support the removal of bibles from court and have refused to put my hand on one.
I support the removal of any Christmas items from in front of courthouses unless they allow others to put out their religious themed items out as well anytime of year that is important to them
I support churches to teach theology and schools to teach facts and one should not teach the other or be ready to prove “God”.

The President’s Inauguration is a Personal event for the President and must be meaningful for him and if he wants his “God” invoked so be it I won’t bow my head.

  • There is a fundamental difference. For one thing, when the President speaks to the nation, he/she is addressing a voting population of mature adults who understands something about how the world works.

When a teacher talks about religion to his/her students, they are not as mature and self-actualized as adults are. Students are not consciously mature to be able to differentiate between what they are being told about life, and what life is actually about. As such, teachers in public schools should stay focused on the job of educating the children and not preaching religion to them.

I have always felt that if the church was doing a good job on Sunday, they wouldn’t have to be concerned with what the public schools are teaching or not teaching. The fact of the matter is, as the American population becomes better educated, religion is dying. It is on its way out. The only hope for the survival of their institution is to brainwash the children. That is exactly why the public needs to keep church and state separate.
