Connecticut Attacks Religion; Catholic Church. Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Tyranny

This is it, the beginning of the end. It’s not enough that they are brainwashing our kids in school, now they want to tell us how to run our churches. Have they never heard of this thing called the first amendment? Just how stupid do they think we are? The law maker who introduced this bill should be tarred and feathered. I hope to see a lot of people in the state capital Wednesday protesting Connecticut vs. Church. jbranstetter04 A double standard for ‘church and state’ in Connecticut The Roman Catholic church expressed outrage this week — and rightfully so — over proposed legislation that would’ve forced the church to reorganize its infrastructure in Connecticut. According to Sen. Andrew McDonald, D-Stamford, co-chairman of the Judiciary Committee, the proposed legislation — Bill 1098 — was drafted in response to incidents in Greenwich and Darien, where two priests allegedly diverted, if not embezzled, parish funds to the tune of $3.5 million. The church was right on this one. The bill doesn’t belong on the books. In fact, Bill 1098 was withdrawn Tuesday before it ever reached the cauldron of a public hearing Wednesday. Even so, hundreds of Roman Catholic protestors are still expected to converge on the state Capitol in Hartford Wednesday in protest. “There are 387 parishes in Connecticut, and there might be a sour apple once in a while,” Bridgeport Bishop William Lori conceded Monday in a conference call with the Hearst Connecticut Newspapers. “You don’t get rid of

@Tonz1231 I very highly doubt you even know what legislation I was making a reference to. Way to be a close-minded bigot.

@Radetzky19 I agree with the separation of church and state. Religion should not be able to impact the laws of the land and the government in turn should not try to control religion. One of the most important tenets of Christianity is the concept of a God-given free will. Forcing someone to conform to religious standards by law rather than by choice would be a violation of this. At the same time, the government should stay out of religion and not try to warp it into something that it is not.

@Radetzky19 If you don’t believe in God/religion, then you can’t really have a belief in true right or wrong. To an Atheist, morality has to be subjective. You can personally believe something to be incorrect based on your own code but like I said, it’s a subjective morality. There would be no true right or wrong and therefore no true definition of morality. Based on that face, you really can’t say that Christianity, or anything else for that matter, is based in “immorality”

@Tonz1231Humanism is the ultimate form of vanity and arrogance. I obviously disagree with your opinions/beliefs, but I fully support your right to hold them. I never said Atheism etc shouldn’t be allowed. I’ve criticized it, but never once said that people shouldn’t be free to subscribe to that particular belief. On the other hand, you’ve said point blank that religion should not be allowed. Trust me, you don’t want to live in a world where you don’t have a right to your own beliefs.

  • @edwthompson313 – Religion and faith need to be replaced with worldviews such as my own – Secular Humanism.

I reject all things supernatural and I appear as a skeptic. However, I believe in ethical and moral philosophy and debate and the coming together of ideas to solve problems and answer questions such as “how do we live with one another?” or “how do we practice justice?” etc.

These are questions that faith and religion has no hope of ever solving or answering.

  • @edwthompson313 I do not believe in taking away ppls faith in religion away. I am only advocating that religions should not permeate politics as much as it does. It goes against separation of church and state. Other Western industrialized countries learned this already, the USA has a long way to go. Religion having a dominant hand in politics is wrong and irrational.

  • @edwthompson313 You are also completely wrong in your definition of atheism. Atheims is a lack of a belief in God not necessarily a belief that no god exists. Many ppl who are atheist are also agnostic meaning they have lack of a belief in a god that exists but that it is not impossible but to them what is “demonstrable” with religions today def does not proove there is a god that exists in the teachings of those religions.

  • @edwthompson313 so therefore Charities are brought by the goodness of ppl not necessarily religion; religion is just there to serve as organizational mechanism for these charities to go through.

  • @edwthompson313 Actually those good charities come from the goodness of ppls hearts; although funded through religious institutions it does not make these religious institutions necessarily “good”. Religion in itself is inherently immoral. Although there are religious ppl who are good ppl and see their faith as good, they ignore the tenants of the Christian doctrine that are immoral.

How about Desert Storm? Or the Mexican-American War? Vietnam War? Even the Iraq conflict really has nothing to do with religion, it’s just a war over oil and power.
Let’s also not forget the tremendous amount of good religion can do. Food for the Poor, St Vincent DePaul place, and all of the Christian charities that are currently aiding in Haiti are just a few of the positive effects of religion in the world. These are all some of the things Seth MacFarlane won’t tell you.

@Tonz1231 And you think that goal will be achieved by going on youtube, making inane remarks, and putting down what people believe in? Doubtful.
Let’s say that all religion was banned. Sudden world peace would not result. Taking religion away wouldn’t make it so that everyone automatically had a shared set of moral codes and beliefs. There would be just as much struggle, strife, and bloodshed. We’ve had many wars that had nothing to do with religion. Ever hear of the American Civil War?

  • @edwthompson313 – Plus I don’t think people should be told something that is false which religion is and I don’t like TV channels which promote false information and ideas. Reason and doubt needs to be promoted so that more people would use the cranial capacity that evolution has granted them.

  • @edwthompson313 – Religion is dangerous. Once a person takes a position of faith, there is no telling what that may lead to. As long as scripture is thought to be more than words on paper, the chance that prejudice will arise or an extremists will use violence will always exist.

You try to live by the golden rule eh?
Funny coming from a guy who says people shouldn’t be allowed to worship as they choose. Also that doesn’t really seem to fit in with the snide remark you had for that burger guy a few posts down. Your age explains quite a bit in regard to your behavior and views, but one thing is unclear to me. Why would you, a worldly, righteous and enlightened Atheist be watching a video from the Evil Fox News about Catholicism in Connecticut?

  • @edwthompson313 – The Universe is greater than myself, but it doesn’t require a “god” to exist or function.

I try to live by the “golden rule” or “treat others as you would like them to treat you.”

That idea is a universal one that existed long before religion did. It can be found in the analects of Confucius.

No, I am not immortal, that’s why I live this life, the only one we may have, to the fullest and I don’t waste my time with faith like you do.

  • @edwthompson313 – Everything you just stated is bullshit.

There is absolutely no EVIDENCE to support anything you stated. You stated nothing but faith.

    A supernatural dimension doesn’t exist.

“someday have to answer for your deeds…” – So you believe that we get 72 virgins when we die? Or how about reincarnation? Until you show me EVIDENCE, none of your beliefs are true.

@Tonz1231 Atheism is a mental illness, most closely related to Narcissism. You can’t accept that there is something greater than you in the universe and you can’t handle the idea of consequences for your actions. You want to think you can live for the moment and do whatever feels good with no fear of punishment. If I were you, I’d stop praying and worshipping into a mirror because you are not immortal and will someday have to answer for your deeds.
I look forward to your self indulgent reply.

  • @whataburgerfan1 – Get real.

Oh wait, you’re a person of “faith”…. Nevermind.

  • Religion is a mental illness.

Like any illness, it needs to be cured, not just a more milder version of it spread.

Reason, doubt, logic, and skepticism are the cures.

Bill Defeated! All the liberals and atheists in Connecticut are writhing in defeat right now and it’s beautiful! Glory to God in the highest!

  • What about the churches who think and tell people pretty much like what he thinks the gov. is doing?

  • If there’s no god, then there’s no rights!!? We get our rights from the Secular Consensus, what the majority of people agree all humans should have the right to. Simple. No need to confuse us with god and jesus and bigfoot and all the others. And instead of only listening to god when he tells you to do good things and ignoring the bad things, why not just stop listening to god? I promise you wont even be able to tell that he’s gone, its almost like he was never there to begin with !? SHOCK!!!

I used to go to a Catholic church but I stopped. It doesn’t make sense to confess my sins to child molesting priest.
