Q&A: Do the American scam religions exploit with impunity the freedom of religion laws in various countries?

Question by Desiree: Do the American scam religions exploit with impunity the freedom of religion laws in various countries?
Do you think when the founders of different countries made their constitutions or codes of ethics regarding religion, they never realized that American scam religions would eventually be concocted and spread around the world like cancer, targeting vulnerable people and doing so in full compliance with the law? Do you think if they were aware of this, they would have done something to prevent it? Like, would they have written, “People have freedom of religion except for American scam religions which are hereby outlawed”? And everybody knows which religions are American scam religions, right?

No one exploits it more than the democratic party.

  • Of course some religions have exploited the freedom of religion in order to gain, fame, wealth and power.

You * are * aware that most religions were not started in the US, right?

  • People of R&S! This is my beloved Desiree!!

Don’t we make a great couple?!

  • All religions are scam religions. There are pastors with summer homes and motor boats, just as surely as the Vatican invested believers’ donations in its own private enterprises, and L. Ron Hubbard had a yacht filled with drugs and underage boys in bondage outfits.

I’ve said a lot in your last couple of questions about protecting the rights of people to be stupid enough to give their money to the religious scam of their choice. But if you’re going to argue that it’s wrong when one religion does it, then I fail to see why you wouldn’t call for the outlawing of collecting donations by all religions. I don’t personally support such a measure, but at least it would be consistent.

No, i have never heard the term “American scam religions” before. Please explain more?

  • With impunity, no…even countries with religious freedom laws apply a specific set of those laws to religious groups. Fraud is never legal though burden of proof is more difficult with a religious or other group as the defendant.

…and no, everyone does not know which religions are American scam religions any more than everyone knows the definition of “pornography”…and just like pornography, the definition will constantly evolve as people find new ways to do what they want to do without violating the letter of the law (as they find “loopholes”). I would think that your definition of a “scam religion” would be somewhat different from mine…don’t you think Christianity in and of itself is a scam? Would you label any Christian church that asks for money to do “the Lord’s work” a scam?…if so, then the majority of this country obviously won’t have the same definition of “scam religion” as you do.

  • Don’t worry Desiree, in Europe we are on to them.

In many European countries Scientology is outlawed as an illegal business organisation.

I just hope that so called religion will be the first of many to be closed down before they do anymore harm to innocent and vulnerable people.

  • Your question ignores the fact that there were religious scam artists long before there was an America, and they were at work, usually in partnership with civil governments.

And you know what those religions are, don’t you?
