First amendment protects freedom of religion. It’s granted to all citizens natural and unnatural. Objections can be voiced but no steps can prevent anyone from practicing any religion.

ammend 1. read it buddy. it also written all over our nation’s history.

  • we r allowed 2 practice our religion, no matter how hateful or nonhateful it can b. Cults do count

  • Religious freedom is covered by the 1st amendment of the US constitution.

do not confuse civil RIGHTS with civil LIBERTIES — freedom of religion is a civil liberty

religious freedoms CAN AND HAVE been limited in the US: no human or animal sacrifices, no harmful drug use, and a few other exceptions

What the man directly below me is saying is total based on ignorance — the ACLU has fought for and won cases on BEHALF of Christians

  • The First Amendment to the COnstiution of the UNited States guarantees freedom of religion unless you are a Christian or a student of a government school. The Anti-Christian Lawyers Union (ACLU) has done its best to deny almost everyone else, except Muslims, the right to freely practice their religion.

  • Depends what you mean by freedom? 1st amendment bars the government (congress) from making a law respecting an establishment of or prohibiting the free excercise of a religion.

  • Clearly it should be freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

  • THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES UNDER AMENDMENT 1–” CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION,OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGE THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR OF THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.”
WHAT SPECIFICALLY DO YOU SEE THAT CONSTITUTES A VIOLATION OF THESE RIGHTS?
ACTIONS BASED UPON VIOLATION TO WHAT LAW-??
TO VAGUE IN PRESENT QUESTION TO REPLY ADEQUATELY

  • It’s based upon the First Amendment, but there is not any one sentence in that amendment that states you can practice whatever spiritual practices you want to practice. The court’s interpretation of the restriction against the government’s establishment of any one religion was interpreted by the courts to mean the government cannot restrict your right to practice what you believe, within certain limits.

I say “with in certain limits” because freedom of religion, like all other rights, is not absolute. You cannot smoke pot or take peyote just because you become a Rastafarian or member of the Native American Church. The sacrifice of live animals by some religious organizations can be restricted (it must be done in a humane manner that minimizes the animal’s pain). Religious leaders cannot advocate any particular political candidate without risking the loss of the religious leader’s church’s tax-exempt status.
