Jeremy Scahill: ‘Sad Day for America’

Aside from the glaring legal concerns of the US government assassinating one of its own citizens without any means of due process, we have to examine some of the other claims that have been made about Anwar Al-Awlaki and his role in Al Qaeda. In the past, the government has used the States Secrets privilege to hide any real evidence they may have about Awlaki’s operational role. So why now, is it being treated as fact? Alyona and Jeremy Scahill, national security reporter for The Nation magazine, and author of book Blackwater, The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army discuss.

  • This is true American (IN)-JUSTICE from their democracy as they called it and dare to carry a gun and drop bombs to spread it allover the world. no one with the right mind needs it . true justice comes from Allah, the creator of the heavens and earth and everything in it.. the lord of all worlds. May Allah accept imam Al Awlaki’s shahada. Awlaki is alive….forever

  • Did anyone notice her head movement in the start? Sort of funny. But she’s hot, so I’ll let it pass.

  • sounds very similar to Ron Paul’s foreign policy of non interventionism.

  • The U.S. picks who they want as a puppet in some foreign country that they want natural resources from. They seek out what they want, corrupt their leader, put the country in massive debt, then plunder them.

  • if I was president I’d have jeremy as sec of state

  • Al-Awaki looks alot like Bin Laden, makes me wonder if he made some of the videos for the CIA

  • @veniceit1 defense of America?, where have you been?

  • Very good.

  • “President” Mu-Barak Oboma has murdered an American citizen! I say have him citizen arrested and charged with murder.

  • What’s next? Putting an American citizen on an American hit list and following through with it is pretty scary. Especially when we have been given no proof to substaniate Any wrong-doing. Will they start bringing in US military troops to deal with people that protest on the streets? We’ve already seen the mayor of America’s largest city call out ‘his troops’ to beat up protesters and we’ve seen very similar actions in the past. I am completely against nearly All of my government’s actions… ???

  • What is meant by “due process”? That term has been obsolete for years. The rich and well connected usually get fair, legal treatment. The rest get whatever the power structure/government chooses . It would be good to have real due process and equal treatment under the law (constitution) for every citizen but that is not a current reality. The brave young men and women who risk their lives somewhere in the world every day in the defense of America should be America’s first and last priority.

  • @Bigwave2003 Ok we present the evidence AND THEN WHAT? Yemen has at least four internal conflicts what do you want the US to do. AND I REPEAT IN THE US NO ONE CAN BE TRIED IN ABSENTIA… Dont act like now any American is going to be killed by drones… He was a member of AQAP and a great threat to the US. He had a propaganda tool only Bin Laden could match and taking him down was necessary.

  • who is this presenter. she is very smart unlike other stupid shit eating journalists. awlaki is innocent. may god forgive if he wronged

  • @usa303 Nonsense. If real crimes are involved (not just imagined ones) present the evidence. There’s a world court, there’s Interpol; seek extradition from our puppet government in Yemen. You don’t execute someone for what they “could be”. You, under certain circumstances, could turn violent. Should we imprison or execute you now? This is reckless and lawless. It recruits more people to the victim’s cause.

  • Is it too much to ask for a major opposition party in the US? Bush/Obama, Republican/Democrat, the policies are the same: take away money from the middle class and poor to give to the rich; take away rights from average citizens and let government spy, wiretap and enter homes without warrants; and now kill American citizens without any due process. Disgusting! UnAmerican!

  • @logansGT Well, let’s start with the KKK that constantly calls for the killing of blacks and jews. The Black Panthers that call for killing white people.. Dr. Kambon that called for the extermination of all white people… there are people from all groups that incite violence. Do we go and kill them? You just called for the killing of more Muslims, so per your logic, Iran can now send a drone into the US and kill your ass and justify it by saying you incited violence against them…

  • @aaronpolitical Lol…..yea, all the little prick needed was a black hat and suit, and those goofy shoulder-length pigtails on the sides of his head.

  • @gold95 I’d like to see that “long list of people that need to be assassinated within the U.S.” I want to know why they’re still walkin’ talkin’ and breathin’ :o)
Re Saddam…..they wasted too much time and energy on the dumb-ass trial. They should have thrown a grenade in that hole and exterminated him right there.
But seriously, do you really think I give a shit about all this? Nothing will change until that Washington cesspool, aka Congress, ceases to be controlled by the corps and bankers.

  • The United States cannot trial someone in absentia, so what do you want the US to do? Send FBI agents to Yemen and arrest him? Be real, he cannot be arrested and summoned to trial. So in other words he would always be innocent and if we did what you suggest then he would be a free man able to do what he pleases. When OBL was killed many said that he was only an ideologue with no operational control… well all of them were wrong. Awlaki could be the exact same thing. HE WAS A THREAT PERIOD

  • @gold95 Looks like he’s a neocon war monger.

  • On the lighter side, is anyone else as amused as I am about how much al-Awlaki looks Jewish…like a rabbi? His facial structure, those bottle glasses…even the beard kinda works.

  • 1:07 Listen to those sirens. The stormtroopers are already coming for this guy. Oh how they hate the truth!
