Question by tracy: Would the Civilian National Security Force be the same thing as the Volunteer Police Force?
President Elect Obama stated his plans to double the size of the Peace Corps and nearly quadruple the size of AmeriCorps and the size of the nation’s military services, he made this pledge: “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
Would the Civilian National Security Force be the same thing as the Volunteer Police Force?

This is what I do not understand. People will raise absolute and total hell about the patriot act, but this is some kind of non issue.
National security objectives… hmmm… Isn’t that what got us the patriot act?
Do people not have any thoughts other than it is time to unite under this man?

I am curious to know Obama’s plans for this CNSF and just what they will be protecting us from that the FBI, the DEA, ICE, the Secret Service, the Border Patrol, the DOJ, the state police in every state in the union, the local police in almost every county and city in the union, and the many more law enforcement agencies I am sure I am missing from this list cannot protect us from. Apparently, it is something very sinister and something very dangerous because with the millions upon millions of law enforcement officers we have in this country, Obama feels we need another security force that is as powerful as the US military.
I guess we will all have to “Hail Obama”, after everything said and done.

He was obviously mistaken when he said that, as a civilian organization that big couldn’t possibly use up hundreds of billions of dollars unless they dumped it all into the sea.
He hasn’t elaborated on it. It sounds more like a volunteer organization for emergencies and community service along the lines of the State Defense Forces – military organizations controlled by their state governments who wear the same uniforms and ranks as federal troops, but are not issued weapons and mostly serve as emergency workers.
On a federal level and with more funding and prominence, such an organization could be used in emergencies more easily and efficiently than the National Guard. Brownshirts? Not likely.
