Q&A: National Security question – for an online business ethics class?

Question by Michelle: National Security question – for an online business ethics class?
I’m in an online class for business ethics and am having trouble finding any references to this question we have. We are having an online debate via a discussion board and have been assigned roles. My role is a Republican Senator and this is the question posed:

Should national security issues be outside the realm of ethics and differentiated from the issues that arise concerning privacy in a commercial setting such as your place of employment?

If anyone can help me out that is Republican, I would appreciate it. I would also appreciate serious answers only. This debate will start in just over 2 weeks. Thanks in advance!

Answer by JAMES H
No National Security issues should not be outside the realm of ethics nor should it be differentiated from the issues of privacy. First let start by stating I am a Republican and know many Republicans. They including myself are not fearful of a Republican taking away our right of privacy. We are afraid of the Government infrenging upon our rights to be secure in our property and person. First I must answer this question by stating nowhere in the Constitution is stated there is a right to privacy. You have a right to secure in your person, property and papers. This right can only be taken away by a writ or warrant issued by a court and of course with the proper probable cause.
Second if you are an employee in a business this right does not apply. The Constitution only applies to the Government not to an individual or business. You must understand that as an employee you are using company phones, computers, space and equiptment. Therefore all that is done, stored or view via those mediums can be subjected to scruitny by the Company.
The same applies to a Business which is doing business to a Country which is contuary to the National Security of this Country. Using the Home Land Security means of investigation even a wire tap must be approved by a Judge.
If I were you I would first start with the US Constitution pertaining to the search and seizure docturne. Next I would check out the Home Land Security Bill ending with Court Rulings, and the issues concerning international commerce.

Q&A: What do you think are the MAIN issues that qualify as National Security concerns?

Question by Serenity08: What do you think are the MAIN issues that qualify as National Security concerns?
Someone has said (as an answer to a prev question) that only terrorist threat is a National Security concern.

How about dependence on foreign oil? How about China and India’s fast growing demand for oil, putting pressure on supply…and leading to rapid price increases? Isn’t that a National Security concern?

How about our debt to China?

How about border security?

How about the outsorucing of certain jobs that deal with our safety and security?

Please add to the list…

How much attention should we give to these issues and others?

Kennedy-UFOs-MJ-12-Part-1

A newly released DVD featuring a detailed analysis of both official and leaked documents provides a compelling case that President Kennedy’s efforts to declassify UFO files was a direct factor in his assassination. The DVD is a video recording of Dr Michael Salla’s presentation at the 7th Annual UFO Crash Retrieval Conference on November 7, 2009. Dr Salla reveals that there were three critical periods concerning President Kennedy’s efforts to gain access to classified UFO files. The first began in February 1961 with Kennedy’s Executive Order to place psychological warfare programs under the control of his national security team. The second period then began and involved Kennedy using his authority as Commander in Chief to learn what he could about UFOs and extraterrestrial life, while being denied access to UFO files by MJ-12 and the counterintelligence (CI) branch of the CIA. The third and most critical period began on September 20, 1963 when President Kennedy gave a speech at the UN General Assembly calling for joint space and lunar missions with the USSR. Part 1 of 7

[[ The Mandatory Service Bill and the Impending Attack On Iran ]] Kurt Nimmo www.prisonplanet.tv August 1, 2010 Rep. Charles Rangel may be in trouble because he is your standard corrupt district of criminals opportunist, but that has not killed his mandatory slavery bill. On July 15, Rangel introduced HR 5741, the Universal National Service Act, and it was referred to the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel on July 23. Even though the bill does not have co-sponsors, it is currently under debate. “I have introduced legislation to reinstate the draft and to make it permanent during time of war,” said Rep. Charles Rangel. “I have introduced legislation to reinstate the draft and to make it permanent during time of war. It is HR 5741, and what this does is to make everyone between the ages of 18 and 42 — whether they’re men or women, whether they’re straight or gay — to have the opportunity to defend this great country whenever the president truly believes that our national security is threatened,” Rangel said from the floor of the House. Rangel specifically said the legislation is designed to be used “during time of war.” On the day before Rangel’s slavery bill went to the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel, Texas Rep. Louis Buller Gohmert introduced House Resolution 1553. It has since been referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs. www.infowars.com _____________________________________________________________ [[ Oxford professor

Best answer:

Answer by Tyler T
How funny, I got that letter today and was going to ask the same thing!

And regarding the NSHSS, that is a scam. I was nominated as well. A whole bunch of my friends were. All you do is pay them like $ 60 and they sent you a certificate with your name on it and you never hear from them again.

My friend fell for it. Came to school bragging about his certifcate, I kinda burst his bubble. lol

Starman

Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The “starman” has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny’s help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel–which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986.

Fort Leavenworth, Kan. (PRWEB) May 31, 2012

The Col. Arthur D. Simons Center for the Study of Interagency Cooperation announces the winners of its Interagency Writing Competition for 2012. The competition was open to the public and ran from September 2011 through March 2012. The top three papers that provided insight and fresh thinking in advancing the knowledge, understanding, and practice of interagency coordination, cooperation, and collaboration at the tactical or operational level of effort were:

First Place: The Genie in the Bottle: Opportunist and Antagonistic Responses to Whole of Government Approaches, by Erik A. Claessen, a Belgian Army officer who works in the Strategy Department of the Belgian Joint Staff in Brussels. Claessen’s entry earned him $ 2,000, an engraved plaque and certificate.

Second Place: Embassy in the Lead: Lessons on Interagency Unity of Effort for Today’s U.S. Mission to Iraq from the 1947–1949 U.S. Mission to Greece, by Evans A. Third Place: Rethinking the Interagency Role in Preventing Conflict in Dealing with Failing or Failed States, by Rumu Sarkar, a senior legal advisor to Millennium Partners, an international development consulting group based in Charlottesville, Va. The Simons Center has published each of these winners in its “InterAgency Papers” series. They are available on the Simons Center website at http://thesimonscenter.org/2012-public-writing-competition-winners/.

This first-ever public writing competition for the Simons Center garnered interest and entries from around the world—from the U.S., Europe and Canada, from San Diego to Switzerland. Authors were from a variety of backgrounds including military officers, academicians, government leaders and non-governmental organization leaders. Even a U.S. Navy chaplain weighed in with an entry.

Each entry for the competition was required to focus on one of two special topics:

The interagency role in preventing conflict when dealing with failing or failed states; or
The validity of the “whole-of-government” approach in dealing with the full range of homeland and national security threats.

A panel of Simons Center judges evaluated each entry on originality, substance of argument, style and contribution to advancing the understanding and practice of interagency cooperation at the operational and tactical levels of effort.
