Afghan National Army and police attended the Regional Command-West transfer of authority April 4 in Herat. RC-W, which is an Italian-led command, welcomed Brig. Gen. Carmine Masiello as he replaced Brig. Gen. Marcello Bellacicco as the RC-W commander. Afghan National Security Forces and RC-W leaders and troops have been working as partners to secure and develop western Afghanistan in order to provide peace and stability for Afghan civilians. In attendance were several distinguished guests, including Gen. David Petreaus, commander of ISAF and U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Lt. Gen. David Rodriguez, commander of ISAF Joint Command, Italy’s Chief of Defence General Staff Generale Biagio Abrate and the NATO Senior Civilian Representative, Ambassador Mark Sedwill.
