Basically in a nutshell, Obama will make it all socialized, boost the cost to the taxpayers and reduce the competency and efficiency. Patients will have long waits for routine procedures like getting a gall bladder out, like in Canada and Europe. You won’t be able to choose your doctors or see a specialist if you want. You’ll have to do more paperwork for government permissions to access specialty, expensive or unusual healthcare.

Your best bet is don’t smoke or do drugs, exercise regularly and don’t do screen activities to the point of getting overweight. If something hurts, stop doing it, stock up on over the counter remedies, and

oh yeah, stay in school and get an education before you have kids
to take care of.

PayingthePrice.org Publishes New Information Regarding U.S. Health Care Reform, Big Pharma and Prescription Drugs from Canada

PayingthePrice.org Publishes New Information Regarding U.S. Health Care Reform, Big Pharma and Prescription Drugs from Canada

PayingthePrice.org

(PRWEB) December 21, 2011

PayingthePrice.org, an advocacy movement dedicated to educating Americans about the crisis of prescription drug pricing, has published a new article regarding the health care reform bill that passed in March 2010. The bill was passed as a measure to help Americans gain better access to affordable health care and prescription drugs. However, the PayingthePrice.org article suggests that biggest winners may not be U.S. patients, but rather large pharmaceutical companies themselves.

“This article connects the dots between the White House, Big Pharma’s lobbying efforts, Health Care reform and consumer advocate whistle blowers who called for transparency during the negotiations,” states Emmett Murphy, spokesperson for PayingthePrice.org. The research suggests that Big Pharma’s tactics of heavy lobbying in Washington and engaging in price manipulation keep the pharmaceutical companies in their powerful market position, despite the health care reform bill’s intent to put U.S. citizens’ needs first.

The Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by the President in March 2010, gives Americans better health security by putting in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that hold insurance companies accountable, lowers health care costs, guarantees more choice, and enhances the quality of care for all Americans. Initially, the powerful pharmaceutical lobby supported passage of the health care reform bill, but only after cutting a few deals with the White House to ensure that their interests would be protected.

PayingthePrice.org is sponsored by Jan Drugs, a licensed and regulated, brick-and-mortar Canadian Pharmacy. “Americans should be concerned about the threat of reduced access to Canadian pharmacies and affordable medications,” notes Murphy. He asserts, “Pharmaceutical company tactics like price-fixing and pay to delay are forcing Americans to pay more for their medications than citizens of any other industrialized nation.”

From covering personal drug importation issues to exposing leaked free-trade agreement negotiation documents, PayingthePrice.org gives visitors the knowledge to understand the prescription drug cost crisis and the tools to spread the word and help make a change. The website’s mission is to explore how the high price of prescription drugs places millions of Americans at risk everyday.

For more information about this compelling issue, please visit http://www.payingtheprice.org

Founded in 2003, Jan Drugs is a licensed, brick-and-mortar Canadian pharmacy regulated by the Canadian government for safety. Jan Drugs is a verified member of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA), which has been chosen by Google, Bing, and Yahoo as the verification authority for online pharmaceutical advertisements. Jan Drugs carries prescription medication made by the leading name-brand and first-tier generic manufactures at prices up to 80 percent less than US pharmacies. Jan Drugs has helped over 100,000 Canadian and American patients get access to the high quality medications they need at prices they can better afford.

Seniors Face Tough Times this Holiday Season; Home Instead Senior Care Network Offers 10 Money-Saving Tips

Seniors Face Tough Times this Holiday Season; Home Instead Senior Care Network Offers 10 Money-Saving Tips

In an effort to help older adults make the most of this holiday season, the Home Instead Senior Care network offers 10 money-saving tips

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

Even though Congress increased the debt ceiling earlier this year, allowing older adults to get Social Security checks on time, seniors face financial challenges that could contribute to a bleak holiday.

In 2011, for the second consecutive year, seniors received no Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), according to the Annual Survey of Senior Costs from The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a senior advocacy organization. What’s more, seniors can expect to receive only a very small COLA next year, TSCL reported. Unfortunately, a downward trend is continuing for older adults. Since 2000, the COLA has increased just 31 percent, while typical senior expenses have jumped 73 percent, more than twice as fast, according to the survey.

“Cuts of essential items such as food and medication should be of immediate concern to seniors’ families,” said President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Huber of Home Instead, Inc., franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care® network.

“Other reductions in spending can lead to less obvious issues. One of the biggest problems that we see is senior isolation, which has been magnified during this troubled time in the economy, especially considering the high price of gas,” he added.

In an effort to help older adults make the most of this holiday season, the Home Instead Senior Care network offers the following money-saving tips:

1.    Consider in-home care. The costs of home care are often lower than other living options for seniors who need help. However, seniors and their families typically over-estimate that cost, according to research conducted for the Home Instead Senior Care network.

2.    Economize at mealtime. Look for affordable meal options such as Meals on Wheels® or a local senior center, which can offer both cost savings and opportunities for companionship.

3.    Get back to basics. While winter might not be a great time to garden in many parts of the country, container and potted gardens can be grown indoors year-round to deliver fresh herbs or even produce.

4.    Avoid convenience. While that might seem like a strange statement, convenience many times equates to increased cost, especially when it comes to food. Avoid convenience foods and watch for sales on fresh or canned fruits, vegetables and meats, which can be less expensive.

5.    Look for deals. It always pays to look for the best price, but no more so than with medications. Buy generic when possible. Contact a pharmacist about ways to save money on medications.

6.    Thrifting is thrifty. Just because money is tight doesn’t mean that family and friends need to go without a holiday gift. Look to thrift stores for affordable gifts. Or make presents. A grandchild likely would love a recipe box of favorite family recipes and the stories that go with those dishes. Scrapbooks always are popular as well.

7.    Carpooling makes sense. If it’s too cold to walk, contact others going in the same direction or to the same place and share costs.

8.    Save energy. Installing weather-stripping, caulking leaky doors and windows, and installing gaskets behind outlet covers can lead to cost savings.

9.    Decorate the natural way. Go green and save money. It’s amazing the beautiful holiday ornaments that can be created from pine cones and branches sprayed with silver, white or gold paint. Cranberry and popcorn garlands make pretty and affordable decorations as well.

10.    Look to the experts. Call a local Area Agency on Aging if the costs of food and gas have become prohibitive. For more information about programs and resources, contact the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Family caregivers can look to the Home Instead Senior Care network’s many online resources, such as the CaregiverStress.com website, to help seniors and their loved ones cope during difficult times.

American Heritage Hand Delivers “History Care Package” to Political Leaders, Urging Compromise To Avoid Default

American Heritage Hand Delivers “History Care Package” to Political Leaders, Urging Compromise To Avoid Default

Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 27, 2011

Many debates in American history have been every bit as divisive as today’s clash over the debt ceiling. The Constitutional Convention was so bitterly divided that 17 of 55 representatives did not sign the final draft.

To find out what can we learn from past moments when politicians were locked in irreconcilable differences, the editors of American Heritage Magazine asked five top historians to look at how major figures in American history dealt with bitter conflicts. These experts concurred that compromise — although messy — was the only vehicle that enabled the country to move forward at key moments.

Supporting this conclusion, a survey just sent by American Heritage to 7,000 of its 500,000 readers indicated widespread agreement that opposite sides should be flexible. Over 75 percent of readers felt that “both sides should give up something to reach an agreement” in the debate over raising the debt ceiling, while only 25 percent agreed that “some issues are too important for compromise.”

Respondents to the survey included a nearly equal number of Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

This week, American Heritage hand-delivered the results of its reader survey and the five essays in a “CARE Package” for America’s top political leaders to help them navigate through today’s challenges.

If history is any guide, we should not expect the resolution of the debt ceiling crisis to please all of our citizens. James Madison, the most stalwart architect of the Constitution, wrote in dismay to his old friend Thomas Jefferson in Paris that “the plan should it be adopted will neither effectively answer the national object nor prevent … local mischiefs.”

“In a crisis like the current one over the debt ceiling, neither side will emerge a total winner,” said Edwin S. Grosvenor, Editor-in-Chief of American Heritage. “But compromise is usually the only way out. Although Millard Fillmore was not one of our most astute Presidents, I think his description of compromise as the ‘equality of dissatisfaction’ is apt.”

The five moments looked into by American Heritage experts were:

Compromise 1: The U.S. Constitution, by Joseph J. Ellis
The framers would never have written and ratified the Constitution without major compromises.

Compromise 2: Missouri, Slave or Free? by Daniel Walker Howe
On the question of whether Missouri should be admitted to the Union as a free or slave state in 1820, creative moderates brokered an ingenious compromise that averted civil war.

Compromise 3: Clay and the 1850 Debate, by Robert V. Remini
Fistfights broke out in Congress in 1850 over whether the territories just won in the Mexican War should be slave or free—and only a last-minute series of compromises prevented catastrophe. Civil war was postponed for a decade, during which the North grew strong enough to ultimately win the war.

Compromise 4: Whittling Down The New Deal, by David M. Kennedy
Compromise upon compromise whittled FDR’s dreams down considerably, but enabled him to pass his Social Security Act, perhaps the most sweeping social reform of the 20th century.

Compromise 5: Medicare’s Complicated Birth, by Robert Dallek
LBJ was able to pass federal insurance for seniors with shrewd politics and a large dose of compromise.

While our nation’s leaders struggle to reach an agreement to avoid a Federal default on the national debt, they might want to think back over these examples in American history.

Whatever happens on the debt ceiling crisis, most of us will be as unhappy as Ben Franklin at the Constitution Convention. “I confess that I do not entirely approve of this Constitution at present,” said Franklin. “I consent…because I expect no better and because I am not sure that it is not the best.”

About American Heritage:

American Heritage Magazine is the oldest and most respected history magazine in America, and recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary. Launched in 1949, it quickly grew to become the nation’s preeminent history magazine overseen by Founding Editor Bruce Catton, who had just won the Pulitzer Prize for A Stillness at Appomattox. Over the years American Heritage has won many honors, including the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. American Heritage recently launched a new website at http://www.AmericanHeritage.com, with 13,000 articles written by nearly every famous historian of the last half century. The website also includes the innovative National Portal to Historic Collections, with thousands of artifacts online from nearly 100 museums across the U.S.

Below is attached a copy of the letter from American Heritage Editor-in-Chief Edwin S. Grosvenor that was sent to:

Speaker of the House John Boehner

Majority Leader Eric Cantor

Representative Kevin McCarthy

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

Representative Steny Hoyer

Representative Jeb Hensarling

Representative John Larson

Representative James Clyburn

Representative Chris Van Hollen

Senator Benjamin Cardin

Senator Daniel Inouye

Senator Harry Reid

Senator Richard Durbin

Senator Mitch McConnell

Senator Jon Kyl

President Barack Obama

Dear Speaker Boehner:

I am writing you on behalf of the 500,000 readers of American Heritage, the most respected magazine on American history for six decades.

This week, an American Heritage survey revealed that 75 percent of readers felt that “both sides should give up something to reach an agreement” in the debate over raising the debt ceiling, while only 25 percent agreed that “some issues are too important for compromise.” Our readers are equally split among Republicans, Democrats and Independents whose patriotism drives them to study the lessons of history.

History shows us that when our nation faced real crises, even the bitterest of foes have been able to work together for the good of the country.

In fact, our country would probably not even exist if our Founding Fathers had not made major compromises at the Constitutional Convention. Dissatisfaction was so great with the Constitution that 17 of 55 attendees at the convention refused to sign. Benjamin Franklin wrote: “I consent, Sir, to this Constitution, because I expect no better and because I am not sure that it is not the best.”

In the enclosed issue, we assembled five top historians— four Pulitzer Prize-winning historians and the former official historian of the House of Representatives—to examine five critical moments in American history when compromise saved the day. The articles were:

Compromise 1: The U.S. Constitution, by Joseph J. Ellis
The framers would never have written and ratified the Constitution without major compromises.

Compromise 2: Missouri, Slave or Free? by Daniel Walker Howe
Over the question of whether Missouri should be admitted to the Union as a free or slave state in 1820, creative moderates brokered an ingenious compromise that averted civil war.

Compromise 3: Clay and the 1850 Debate, by Robert V. Remini
Fistfights broke out in Congress in 1850 over whether the territories just won in the Mexican War should be slave or free—and only a last-minute series of compromises prevented catastrophe.

LBJ passes federal insurance for seniors with shrewd politics and a large dose of compromise.

At this historic moment, I hope that you find the enclosed issue useful as you work to solve the major

challenges facing our country today.

Sincerely,

Edwin S. Grosvenor

President and Editor in Chief

2009 Health Care Reform Bill, Pros & Cons – What About the Constitution?

There is daily coverage of the 2009 Health Care Reform Bill pros and cons. The coverage is incessant and well it should be. This health care plan will change our lives. However, there is a fundamental question that is ignored, what about the Constitution?

Very recently, Speaker of the House Pelosi was asked by CNS News, “… where does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?” Her response was, “Are you serious? Are you serious?” CNS News: “Yes, yes I am.”

Later, Pelosi’s press secretary went on record as saying, “That is not a serious question.” My question: “Asking for Constitutional clarification is not a serious question?”

I have another question just how many of our Senators and Representatives do you think have actually read the Health Reform Act? Yes, I think you are right. Not very many.

Regardless, it seems to me that it is not within Congress’ or President Obama’s authority to dictate to any citizen whether an individual must carry health insurance. How about you? How do you feel about it?

It is like automobile seat belt laws. I know that there is evidence to support the use of seat belts. Still, in my naive way of thinking, I cannot accept being fined for not wearing my seatbelt. There is no evidence that my not wearing a seatbelt will hurt any one else.

So then, this law, the seatbelt law, is a law for my own good. A law passed by those that know better for my own good. Whatever happened to my unalienable rights? I realize that those unalienable rights are not part of the Constitution but they are words on which this nation was founded (The Declaration of Independence).

Some would argue that enacting a Public Health Policy requiring health insurance under penalty of prosecution falls under the Congress’ Constitutional prerogative or right and duty “to promote the general welfare”. I agree.Promoting the general welfare is Congress’ obligation. However, it is not their prerogative, duty or right to dictate the general welfare. Promoting and dictating are two distinct words with completely different meanings.

Any law that would require a citizen to insure himself for his own protection under penalty of prosecution is not promoting. That is dictating. It is enforcement, not a suggestion.

Do not confuse the likes of auto liability insurance, which is an enforced law in most of the country, with a required health insurance mandate.

Liability insurance protects you from the consequences of someone else’s actions. If someone causes harm or damage to you or your property, you have recourse. Liability insurance protects you from someone else’s negligence not your own.

Requiring liability insurance is promoting the general welfare. That mandate protects you from others. Health insurance protects you for you. It does not protect you from someone else.

Requiring me or anyone else to have medical insurance under penalty of prosecution is just plain wrong.

Maybe we should also require mandatory life insurance, so that I can pay those exorbitant funeral costs. What do you think?

There are many events and issues that deserve honest non-partisan review. Tony Perez is the editor of just such a review.

The commerce clause relates to business, not individuals, but the Democrats have skewed the original purpose and intent of the Constitution. It is said Obama was a constitutional professor at the University of Chicago Law School (even this is a lie — he was in fact a senior lecturer, not a professor), so we should assume he has at least some knowledge of the principles of the Constitution. Obama likely knows that the Constitution does not mandate Americans be forced into a contractual agreement with a private party for health insurance. Apparently, like his predecessor, Obama regards the Constitution as little more than a goddamn piece of paper. Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress given the power to mandate that an individual enter into a contract with a private party or purchase a good or service, explains the Heritage Foundation.
