Why do liberals think that American freedom of religion applies to religions other than Christianity?

Question by : Why do liberals think that American freedom of religion applies to religions other than Christianity?
When the first Amendment said congress could not establish a religion it meant it couldn’t establish a specific kind of Christianity.

Why are “educated” liberals too stupid to realize that this is one time we ignore both the actual words of the Constitution and the “original intent” since niether actually agree with what typical conservatives agree with?

Islam and Christianity in Jamaica Episodes 1 and 2 (Full HQ) Religious Hardtalk

FULL VERSION WITH THE SECOND EPISODE ! Three former Jamaican Fundamentalist Christians tell their stories about how they entered Islam and how it has changed their lives. The Enslaved Muslims from West Africa Recent scholarship on the Atlantic slave trade has revealed that the total number of Enslaved Africans brought to the Americas is likely to be more than twenty million. Slyviane A. Diouf, writing on the Muslim slaves in the Americas, conclusively asserts: “Therefore, if counted as a whole, on a religious basis rather on an ethnic one the Muslims were probably more numerous in the Americas than any other group among the arriving Africans”. In Jamaica from 1655 to 1807, Philip Curtin in his work on slave census, proposes 423900 Africans from Muslim dominated areas, representing 56.8 percent of the arrivals. Islam had cut across ethnic lines, social classes and state boundaries in West Africa— Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Benin, Ghana, and Nigeria, Libya Egypt (incorporating Madinka, Fula, Susu, Ashanti, Hausa and other nations) from as early as the tenth and eleventh centuries, ie long before the slave trade. Islam in these kingdoms was first diffused by the migration of Muslim merchants, teachers, and agricultural settlers. The Muslims sometimes formed peaceful minorities in non-Muslim societies such as the Ashanti Empire. In cases such as Kano, Katsina, Takrur and Bornu the local chiefs accepted Islam as early as the tenth and eleventh centuries.

Christian Non-Profit Fighting to Save Christianity from Self-Destruction

Changing the Face of Christianity Logo

Plano, TX (Vocus/PRWEB) December 28, 2010

Christianity is under attack from the inside. Christians are leaving the religion because of Christian hypocrisy, Christian intolerance, Christian judgmentalism, and Christian homophobia. Instead of living their Christian faith genuinely in the world, defectors see superficial name-tag-only Christians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. Non-Christians don’t take them seriously, because they often don’t follow their own teaching and preaching, which endangers the effectiveness of Christian evangelism efforts.

Outsiders see blatant hypocrisy between Christian beliefs and actions. Non-believers see prideful and self-righteous Christians who act “better” than others and judge others with an attitude of arrogance and intolerance. Homosexuals and people in the gay community feel rejected and condemned as outcasts by the Christian church and its followers.

Many in the Christian church today pay little more than lip-service to worship or living a Christian life. The phrase “love your neighbor as yourself” is quickly becoming a phrase no longer associated with the Christian religion. A non-profit organization called Changing the Face of Christianity is working to save the Christian religion from self-destruction, by helping Christians become more like Jesus Christ.

Changing the Face of Christianity has launched a bold awareness and education campaign aimed at existing Christians. Its strategy is to expose the perceptions of non-Christians to those within the Christian faith and encourage and assist them to take personal action to reverse the negative stereotypes. Founder and President R. Brad White says, “The Bible tells us that non-believers will always hate us, but not for the reasons they hate us now. Who could hate someone for truly loving their neighbor as themselves? The fact is we don’t do a very good job at loving our neighbor.”

The mission of Changing the Face of Christianity is to reverse Christian intolerance, hypocrisy, homophobia, judgmentalism, and other negative Christian stereotypes, by helping Christians to be more like Jesus Christ. Brad says “If non-believers hated us for truly living our faith and for being the best lovers of people the world has ever known, then our campaign would end. We would joyfully accept the criticism.”

Non-believers despise Christianity for all the wrong reasons. But the problem goes deeper than what non-Christians think. There is a growing exodus within the church too, especially within the younger generations. Younger Christians raised to be more accepting of other people, other lifestyles, and other beliefs, are turned off by Christians who maintain attitudes of bigotry and intolerance. This exodus is even more convicting given the growing trend in churches today to appeal to younger generations with “feel good” messages and more contemporary and entertaining worship services. Brad says “It appears that younger generations want more authenticity and compassion than simply more entertainment.”

In the American Religious Identification Survey of more than 54 thousand respondents released in 2009, the number of people claiming no religious preference (“The Nones”) almost doubled from 1990 (8.2%) to 2008 (15%).

In the book unchristian, written by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons based on research from thousands of interviews by the respected Barna Research Group, Kinnaman concludes “The vast majority of outsiders [to the Christian faith]…are actually dechurched individuals.” This gives support to notion that people are leaving the faith, not simply refusing to join as new Christians.

In the book American Grace, researchers Robert Putnam and David Campbell found that “young Americans are dropping out of religion at an alarming rate of five to six times the historic rate (30 to 40 percent have no religion today, versus 5 to 10 percent a generation ago).”

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc performs ongoing independent research and engages in positive dialogue with atheists and agnostics to maintain an accurate pulse on Christian culture and those in greatest opposition to the Christian religion.

Here are a few “outsider” quotes about Christians from Changing the Face of Christianity interviews:

“I would never consider being a Christian, but I might consider not being so critical if more Christians were open and genuine and willing to actually talk about their beliefs.”
“If one was a faithful Christian in their personal life but was able to respect the freedoms of others, what objection could truly be lodged against them? No one cares what you believe, only how your beliefs affect the personal lives of others.”
“I enjoy cross dressing, it makes me feel good about my appearance. It is my right. However the value of that right is severally damaged when I am constantly under attack by members of various religious groups. Are you personally familiar with what it feels like to have people follow you around shouting rude things, throwing empty coffee cups at you, or cornering you with the intention of goading you into a fight?”
“My grandmother always tried to make me feel bad that my mom didn’t take my brothers and me to church. She would tell me that my mom was a bad person. My mom was raised constantly being told that she was a bad person. I’ve seen the emotional scars it left on my mother.”

Brad White says, “We could easily be confused or misunderstood as being anti-Christian because of how forcefully we discuss these tough issues. However, we also have a positive strategy. We also enjoy highlighting Christians doing good. When engaging with non-believers, we listen instead of preach. We are gracious instead of antagonistic. We are accepting and reasonable instead of intolerant and hysterical. We want to show non-believers that there are positive, like-minded Christians out there that really care about them instead of simply trying to convert them.”

Brad continues, “When we started, we knew we would encounter some opposition within the church and some confusion about our purpose. However, we’ve been overwhelmed and encouraged by the positive response. I continue to meet people who say ‘you are dead on, keep it up,’ and we keep discovering other complimentary ministries that are attacking the problem from different perspectives. I have incredible faith and hope for Christianity even as we enter a very dark time within our church.”

Changing the Face of Christianity Inc has also released a “Christian Face Quiz”. Answer 10 questions and the quiz will return a score, telling you how Christian you are.

StayingInspired.com: An Online Community and Blog about Christianity, Church, and the Military

Star City, Arkansas (PRWEB) January 29, 2011

StayingInspired.com, an online community and blog about Christianity, church, and the military, has released several new pages, including “Military Support Groups,” “Religion in the Military,” and “Retired Military Health Care.”

The page “Military Support Groups” from StayingInspired.com describes three unique support groups dedicated to causes for United States military members and their families. The page characterizes Veterans Corporation as a non-profit organization that offers financial advice to veterans looking to start a small business. Pillows For Soldiers is a charitable group that uses donations to send pillows to soldiers, veterans, and the families of deceased soldiers. Finally, the author considers the American Freedom Foundation as one of the most important military support groups for providing medical care and other services to veterans and their families.

“Religion in the Military,” published on StayingInspired.com, explains the relationship between religious beliefs and military personnel. The page comments on why military members are forbidden from preaching while in uniform. It also notes that the majority of soldiers, up to 85%, are Christian. Furthermore, the author dictates that military chaplains, non-combat soldiers available for conducting religious ceremonies and counsel, must be endorsed by a religious group. Finally, the page describes the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a group that protects the religious rights of soldiers.

“It is no secret that members of the U.S. military have access to the best health care available in the country,” begins StayingInspired.com on the page “Retired Military Health Care.” The author discusses various TRICARE, the overarching military health care program, options available for retirees, including TRICARE Prime, Standard and Extra. TRICARE Prime is the cheapest of the three, though the page mentions that it requires the use of military hospitals or care facilities. The article warns that retired members of the Reserve are not eligible for these programs until their 60th birthday.

New Book Reintroduces the Central Teachings of Christianity

New Book Reintroduces the Central Teachings of Christianity

San Ramon, Costa Rica (PRWEB) August 6, 2006

Dr. John W. Gilmore aims to reinvigorate the mystical Christian tradition by making the teachings of Jesus available to all people, from all faiths, and all higher thinking philosophies in his new book, “Reclaiming the Religion of Jesus in a Modern Age.”

Dr. John W. Gilmore discusses the central, universal teachings of the church before it became adopted by the Roman Empire as a state religion. He reintroduces the central teachings of Christianity, “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you,” and discusses how people can change their lives and find spiritual liberation by believing in this original teaching.

“Reclaiming the Religion of Jesus in a Modern Age” is a deep exploration of Christian teachings through the eyes of the mystics and sages from all faiths. “Reclaiming the Religion of Jesus in a Modern Age” re-introduces readers to the theology of Jesus and the power of his teaching. It liberates readers from a theology that has been tainted by the culture of men and the politics of human institutions.

Dr. John Gilmore wrote “Reclaiming the Religion of Jesus in a Modern Age” to give people from all religious faiths an opportunity to share in the teachings of Jesus, and to share the freedom derived from his pure, unchanged message. His intention was to remove Jesus from the cross, and to put forth the idea of the resurrected Jesus and the great teacher who walked among the common people and healed them.

“Jesus’ message is still available and powerful today,” said Gilmore. “We still have governments and institutions intertwined. Many religious institutions are so burdened with the culture of their day that they are no longer transformational, like the original church or message. It is time, once again, for people to seek a direct connection with the Divine, as Jesus taught throughout his ministry on Earth.”

“Realizing that the Kingdom of Heaven is within, and seeking and finding it there gives, one direct access to God. It washes away the false self-image and allows us to tap into who and what we really are.”

Gary DeMar and “America’s Heritage” — Unsuccessful Effort to Link Christianity and the Constitution

“America’s Heritage” by Gary DeMar is an unsuccessful attempt to link Christianity and the U.S. Constitution. The book was published by Coral Ridge Ministries in 2002.

A Christian Constitution?

The fundamental question is posed in the Introduction, “America’s Christian Heritage: Fact or Fiction?” The foregone conclusion is “fact,” and the book presents the usual assortment of quotes from various Presidents and Supreme Court Justices as evidence. This line of indirect testimony continues throughout the book. Plaques and inscriptions in Washington D.C., the Christian founding of various colleges, and official national days of prayer are presented as evidence.

The author then points to Christianity in the colonial constitutions, which is indisputable. But he tries to bridge from there to show an alleged link between Christianity and the Constitution of 1787. This is highly disputable.

Gary DeMar then presents the two shopworn internal arguments. One is the phrase “year of our Lord” in the subscription clause at the end of the document. Another is the exception of Sunday from the 10 days in which the President must sign or veto a bill. In the lexicon of Informal Logic these are known as trivial arguments.

For example, Christians would not be accused of worshipping the “god of thunder” just because they commonly refer to “Thursday” (ThorsDay) in everyday use of language. Neither should we assume the founding fathers are writing a Christian document merely because they refer to the Christian phrase, “year of our Lord 1787” in everyday use of language.

The Biblical Standard

How can we determine if Gary DeMar has proved that the Constitution is a Christian document and that America is therefore a Christian nation? We need some standard for evaluation. Only the Bible can provide such a standard. Without that standard we are likely to be distracted by various entertaining, but irrelevant arguments. What does the Bible say about deciding whether a particular nation is a Christian nation, or not?

In all His dealings with Israel God insists that the nation maintain its covenant relation with Him by means of an oath to obey His law. Continually Israel returns to an act of formal, oath-bound commitment to God, often written, to renew the broken covenant.

Without the oath-bound covenant to a legal system based on the Bible there is no Christian nation. This is the defining characteristic of a “Christian nation.” There may be many other attractive features, but without the oath there is nothing that may be called a Christian nation.

Nehemiah 9:38 provides us a clear example, when it says, “…We are making an agreement in writing; and on the sealed document are the names of our leaders, our Levites and our priests.” Judging by this standard, we are forced to conclude that Gary DeMar and “America’s Heritage” have failed to prove the case. It has demonstrated no essential link between Christianity and the Constitution.

Do Christian colleges constitute a national oath to God? No. Does the phrase “year of our Lord” constitute a national oath to God? No. Does excluding Sunday from the 10-day window to sign or veto a bill constitute a national oath to God? No. Does any of the evidence presented in America’s Heritage constitute a national oath to God? No.

We can only conclude that Gary DeMar has not succeeded in showing that the Constitution of the United States has any Christian Foundation. The author has fallen short of establishing any vital link between Christianity and the Constitution.

Sadly, Gary DeMar takes a nonchalant attitude toward the covenant oath to God. At the end of Chapter 3 a rhetorical question is presented: “If the constitutional framers could get a glimpse of America today, would they have rethought their decision only to make passing reference to the lordship of Jesus Christ?”

The answer: “We will never know. But when all the testimony is in, it is an undeniable truth that Christianity served as the foundation for the political edifice we know as America.” Here Gary DeMar admits that the Constitution left out the one essential ingredient for a Christian government — the lordship of Jesus Christ. However, In the next breath he claims that America is a Christian nation anyway. The conclusion does not follow from the premise.

For this reason we are forced to conclude that “America’s Heritage” falls short of establishing any connection between Christianity and the Constitution and denies the cornerstone of Christian civil government.

Q&A: Conservatives, do you think freedom of religion only applies to Christianity?

Question by kr_811: Conservatives, do you think freedom of religion only applies to Christianity?
My pastor (who is obviously Conservative) had a two week series on the evils of Islam. He was completely misinformed about the whole religion because said that every Muslim in America is either an terrorist or agrees with the terrorists but is too afraid to be a terrorist. He concluded that Islam should not be allowed in America.
What happened to freedom of religion? This right according to the Conservative way?

P.S. One of my closest friends is Muslim and he can’t stand what terrorist are doing.

Christianity Separates Church and State

The First Amendment of the US Constitution was written and authorized with one intended meaning. Few in our country know what the lawmakers that formed the First Amendment has in mind — they only know what they have been told. Christianity is not opposed to separation, but actually supports it biblically. Gary DeMar shows where the line should be drawn for all jurisdictional powers based on the God’s Word.

Financial Freedom With Christianity – Fact or Fiction? – Seek the Truth it Will Set You Free

Christian Financial Freedom requires you to know the truth about answered and unanswered prayers; Fact or fiction? Unanswered prayers do not exist; you either have a negative or a positive response. If your prayers do not get a positive result it means your prayers were answered by God in the negative. God hears you and replies. Have you ever investigated why the verse that says: “and whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be Glorified in the Son.”

It stands to reason that who so ever is not the beneficiary of an answered prayer will look for a thousand reasons to substantiate this as god’s will, no one like to be outside of god’s will. Immediately you will have a thousand Christian clichés as a substitute for the real reason. Clichés like, have faith, or Gods timing is not your timing, unbiblical hackneyed and nauseating, admissions of not knowing the truth in which lies the answer.

Most people are afraid to question the Bible. Why? It says that you should test all things. I decided to test both, my internet home business and the biblical facts. TBN pulpit exponents like Internet Marketing Exponents have lead me round by the nose long enough, time fo the truth. No more listening to TBN hype and get fleeced in the process. Time to put my prayer life and my Christian based affiliate marketing business on the right track. In both instances I need to seek the truth. the success of the one is dependant upon the other.

I am sure you know the story of Jacob, he promised God that if He would provide for him, protect him, and bring him back safely to his land, he would then serve God. He required God to give first before he gave. God still loved him. Have you ever heard a sermon about this from a TBN pulpit charlatan? No, all insist you must give to receive; do they have the keys to God’s safe so they can dish out to you, or something? Every one of them is out to take your money. I state categorically they do not believe what they preach; if they do they are hallucinating. If I was one of them and believed what I daily tell the millions of viewers, I would give a million dollars to the cause I’m touting as a good thing, and get back a hundred million from God, it would save one hell of a lot of trouble.

The Word says test all things. I Thessalonians 5:21 instructs us to “test [prove, KJV] all things,” which would include our old notions, and then “hold fast” to the good ones—the ones that pass the test. Have you ever looked for the reason why you did not get what you asked for? There are good reasons which may soon be eradicated, if you seek the truth because it will set you free. However, that is yet another discussion to be published in due course.
I have deviated somewhat from the basic reason for this article, but these shenanigans are depriving a lot of people from the truth. The word says, Seek the truth and it will set you free, so back to the main stream of my article.

I make my income from my home business by way of Internet Affiliate Marketing and SEO work. Unfortunately, both, religion and internet marketing are crowded with hype and scams. It became an obsession with me to discover the truth every time I listened to one of those TBN Multi Millionaire pulpit charlatans, I just knew this could not be the truth about God’s Word and to a similar degree seeing reading and listening to the internet hype about becoming a millionaire over night, or having a new Ferrari parked in your garage before you have even removed you P-Jays in the morning.

Christianity was my first priority as I felt that my Home Business Income was totally dependent upon my knowing the truth.
My search took me into many places besides the Word. The kernel of my research was to find the truth about both including the true meaning of such biblical annotations as:

My people perish for the lack of knowledge.

Seek the Kingdom and all things will be added onto you.

What is God’s will for my life?

Do Christians have to be paupers to be good Christians?

What so ever you ask the father in my name you shall have.

My searching was somehow abruptly curtailed when I read James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom let him ask God who gives to all men abundantly etc., this coupled to the knowledge that Jesus left us a Counsellor, “The Holy Spirit”, when He went to be with the Father in Heaven opened my spiritual ears and eyes. I have not read in the Word that He gives money abundantly or for that matter that He gives new cars or houses. He also tells you how to give and to whom to give, for those who think thast giving brings wealth. I do not see the TBN charlatans enumerated as biblical reci[ients, but I do see the widows and orphans and your Spiritual teacher, as recipients of your giving. Do your own distribution, god will see and know. Don’t give to god because the TBN Hoax makes you believe that your dollar will be ten after he or she has fleeced you. These professional beggars will no doubt have a million reasons for attacking my point of view, however please remember that the word says the road to heaven is narrow.

So what went wrong?
I am a normal working guy, doing my best to live as a follower of The Word, Jesus. When I began to “test all things” in my happy clappy church, and to seek the truth, I discovered lots of turmoil within my spirit. I had lots of questions these so called theologians had no answers for apart from the normal “out” using the hackneyed Christian cliches. I decided that I was in the wrong place. It greatly worried me that the word says “My people perish for the lack of knowledge.” This is both biblically and materially applicable. The two are linked through prayer.
This article is not within the scope of a total biblical perspective, apart from saying that my research, or if you like my revelation put a whole new slant on my Christian life. For the first time I feel that I am successful in both facets of my life, my Spiritual life and my business life. I have discovered via biblical research, using the internet extensively, how one should pray and be in the will of God. I now know why my prayers were never answered, and it was not because I was outside of Christianity, no, simply because the happy clappy churches teachings are wrong and money centered.

There is not one instance in the entire bible that tells us to pray for financial freedom or any form of financial gain, but there are any number of verses which tell you to ask for knowledge.  So that you can do what is necessary to make the income you are working towards. Do you know that a ship at sea needs only be one degree off course, which easily runs the ship aground or onto the rocks. So it is with you and I deviate one degree and land up on the rocks. The good news is that you can keep course very easily because you have a Counselor who keeps you there if you choose to make use of his services.
Take a discovery trip as I did and see your life change, there after God will lead you to the right teacher. It is the first time in my life that I understand why the book says that the road to heaven is narrow, my research to find direction for my future was both spiritually revealing and materially motivating.

For answers to unanswered prayers and knowing how to pray, please get

the program, I know it will unburden you substantially.
