Q&A: National Security question – for an online business ethics class?

Question by Michelle: National Security question – for an online business ethics class?
I’m in an online class for business ethics and am having trouble finding any references to this question we have. We are having an online debate via a discussion board and have been assigned roles. My role is a Republican Senator and this is the question posed:

Should national security issues be outside the realm of ethics and differentiated from the issues that arise concerning privacy in a commercial setting such as your place of employment?

If anyone can help me out that is Republican, I would appreciate it. I would also appreciate serious answers only. This debate will start in just over 2 weeks. Thanks in advance!

No National Security issues should not be outside the realm of ethics nor should it be differentiated from the issues of privacy. First let start by stating I am a Republican and know many Republicans. They including myself are not fearful of a Republican taking away our right of privacy. We are afraid of the Government infrenging upon our rights to be secure in our property and person. First I must answer this question by stating nowhere in the Constitution is stated there is a right to privacy. You have a right to secure in your person, property and papers. This right can only be taken away by a writ or warrant issued by a court and of course with the proper probable cause.
Second if you are an employee in a business this right does not apply. The Constitution only applies to the Government not to an individual or business. You must understand that as an employee you are using company phones, computers, space and equiptment. Therefore all that is done, stored or view via those mediums can be subjected to scruitny by the Company.
The same applies to a Business which is doing business to a Country which is contuary to the National Security of this Country. Using the Home Land Security means of investigation even a wire tap must be approved by a Judge.
If I were you I would first start with the US Constitution pertaining to the search and seizure docturne. Next I would check out the Home Land Security Bill ending with Court Rulings, and the issues concerning international commerce.

PROJECT CAMELOT : ROBERT SALAS : A Question of National Security

I interviewed former Air Force Captain Robert Salas back in 2005 before we created Project Camelot. Back then, I was just starting out conducting interviews for a documentary I planned to make. As it happened, shortly after this interview I met Bill Ryan and we became involved in the journey that became Project Camelot and for the past 4 years I have not had the time to go back and revisit various projects that were filmed and never edited. Each new Camelot interview came fast and furious and we could barely keep up with the work. I wish, at this time, to formally apologize to Robert Salas for the delay in getting this interview out to the public where it belongs. Upon hearing about the Press Conference recently held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC I was motivated to go back and recover this footage in an effort to substantiate and further assist this effort to get the word out about UFOs and National Security at this critical time. Times they are ‘a changin’ and we are at a juncture when the reality of ufos and the fact that we are not alone, have never been alone (as Bob Dean would say) will become the new paradigm. Project Camelot has diligently worked toward this end and to putting an end to secrecy across the board. With this release I hope to pay tribute to Robert Salas and the brave men and women who have put themselves on the line both before the public and behind the scenes to break down the wall of secrecy that divides us here on planet Earth from

Help! American Gov question!?

How would you describe the values of freedom, order and equality as they exist in American society today? how does the American political system balance the values of freedom vs. order and freedom vs. equality?

Compete comfort vs. complete freedom – a question?

I am going to describe two scenarios and I want you to tell me which scenario you would rather live in and why. Also please include your age, gender, country and political affiliation.

Scenario A:

Your government (and its citizens through a majority vote) has decided that all citizens should be given the basic necessities. Every citizen is given a car and a home to suit their needs. The car is one that is safe, reliable and gets the best gas mileage. You are allowed limited options such as color and whether you want a convertible, two door or four door, and other options are allowed for those who need them such as pickup trucks for farmers, minivans for large families and handicap accessibility features. The homes you get are also suited to your needs with few options, and if the home doesn’t fit your needs you may be asked to move (but in the same town) such as if you have children you can move to a larger house, when they grow up you must move to a smaller house. You also get free healthy food and you have the option of buying junk food with your own money if you so choose. You are not however allowed to buy larger cars or houses due to the environmental impact. You also get your utilities provided for up to a certain limit as well as gasoline and car maintenance (you are free to buy more utilities and gasoline from your own earnings if you wish). Healthcare and education is also provided to each citizen as well as clothing for work and job interviews (other clothing may of course be bought by the individual) as well as free school uniforms for school children. Childcare is covered for everyone and so is care for the elderly, sick and disabled such as home health, hospice, nursing homes and retirement homes.

There are no taxes for anyone making less than $250k per year, and subsidies to get incomes up to 250k for families and 200k for individuals who are working full time and not making that much. People making over that will be taxed, and very wealthy who have more than one million dollars will be taxed heavily.

Scenario B:

You live in a system with total freedom and complete individual responsibility. The government exists only to curb serious crime (murder and rape – there are no more laws against drugs, prostitution or other such crimes and private property is the individual’s responsibility to protect) and to provide a military. Everything is owned by the private sector including schools, roads and fire departments. You must pay for children to go to school, you must subscribe to the fire department to use their services, even emergency room care is not provided to people with no insurance. There are no more public libraries – there are privately owned book rentals instead. You must also pay tolls on every road you drive because they are all privately owned. However, there are no taxes other than a sales tax to fund police and military.

A question on complete comfort vs. complete freedom?

I thought I’d ask this again here for more diversity of opinion; it seems everyone in the government section is right leaning.
