Very basically, the Constitution gave us a stronger central (federal) government. Under the Articles of Confederation, the states had power, their own currency and tax rates. They could not agree on federal issues, for example how much each state should contribute to pay the war debt. They also all had different currency. Under the Constitution, the power shifted from the states to the federal government, which collected and dispersed taxes due for war debts as well as other needs. There was a unified currency system.
