What law did the Freedom of Information Act replace?

In the years before the passage of the Freedom of Information Act, there was a law that most saw as one that should have allowed the free flow of information, but in reality did more to limit the amount of information released to the public. What law was that?

  • It didn’t replace any law. It simply sought to limit the government’s use of the ” Sensitive to National Security ” excuse for not revealing certain information. Personally, I don’t think the public needs to know everything, but I believe it has a right to know most things. As long as they are not a true ” National Security ” issue.
