MQ Series: XIMEA Creates World’s Smallest USB 3.0 Industrial Camera

Smallest, Fastest, Best: XIMEA’s MQ Series

MUNSTER, GERMANY (PRWEB) December 01, 2011

XIMEA GmbH is pleased to introduce the MQ series industrial camera, the world’s smallest and fastest USB 3.0 camera for industrial imaging and machine vision.

XIMEA’s MQ series USB 3.0 SuperSpeed data interface delivers up to 5 Gbps of data, enabling image transfers of up to 400 megapixels per second (Mpix/s). Despite its small size – measuring just 26.4 x 26.4 x 19.1 mm and weighing a mere 26 g – the MQ series includes all the standard I/O and features demanded by industrial imaging customers. MQ series cameras include a growing variety of high-grade CMOS sensors with resolutions ranging from VGA to 4 Mpix, global shutters, frame rates up to 600 fps, and improved quantum efficiency (QE) in the visible and NIR spectral ranges. A high dynamic range (HDR) model offers maximum sensitivity with a dynamic range of up to 100 dB.

Connecting the MQ series cameras to industrial data processing systems, OEM equipment, and PCs is greatly simplified with the inclusion of opto-isolated trigger input and illuminator control output, as well as on-board non-volatile memory for user settings and custom data. XIMEA’s MQ series cameras only consume between 1W to 1.8W, easing the power and thermal management design challenges for OEMs and end users alike. And like all XIMEA’s industrial cameras, each MQ series ships with application programming interfaces (APIs) for the most common image processing software, including programs from Cognex, Matrox, National Instruments, MVTec, and many more. Prices for the MQ series start at EUR189 for the 1.3 Mpix version.

“We’re very proud of our development time,” says Max Larin, CEO and head of product development and engineering at XIMEA. “Empowered with modern design methodologies and tools, XIMEA’s designers developed the MQ family in only 100 days while still achieving record data throughput performance in an unbelievably compact housing. It also helps that XIMEA is an active member of USB3 Vision Standard Committee, which ensures that all future MQ series cameras will comply with the emerging USB 3.0 standard.”

Emerson Network Power First to Earn EAL2+ Common Criteria Certification for Secure KVM Switch Series

Emerson Network Power First to Earn EAL2+ Common Criteria Certification for Secure KVM Switch Series

Huntsville, AL (PRWEB) August 10, 2011

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and a global leader in maximizing availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, today announced the Avocent SwitchView® SC600 and SC700 are the industry’s first secure KVM switches to receive EAL2+ Common Criteria certification. The certification extends a history of KVM leadership that began with the introduction of the secure KVM in 2000 and includes the first secure USB KVM switch and the first secure dual-head DVI switch.

Delivering secure access for any desktop environment with controlled USB connectivity, the next-generation secure switch series offers improved work efficiency while saving desktop space by eliminating redundant hardware and cables. Enhanced with the new profile certification that was introduced by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) in 2010, the switches enable the user to consolidate multiple workstations of varying security classification levels with one keyboard, monitor and mouse without compromising the network security.

“Being the first to market with EAL2+ certification marks another significant milestone and underscores our commitment to provide secure access for any desktop environment where security is mandatory while keeping pace with stringent government standards,” said Michael Helms, director of product management for Emerson Network Power’s Avocent business.

Both the Avocent SwitchView SC600 and SC700 switches feature multiple layers of security, including tamper-proof hardware security at the desktop. In addition, the secure switch ensures that only keyboard and mouse function on target computers by constantly monitoring all devices attached to the console ports. These switches ignore communication from all other USB devices (such as flash drives, hard disk drives, cameras and printers) when switching data to the target.

Common Criteria is an internationally recognized set of guidelines (ISO 15408), which define a common framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of information technology security products. The standard consists of several stringent predetermined evaluation assurance levels. To ensure consistency, vendor products are tested against a chosen level by an independent third-party testing laboratory.

The NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme for IT Security (CCEVS), was established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) to evaluate IT product conformance to international standards within the framework of the Common Criteria.

Henley-Putnam University Webinar Series to Examine the Effects of 9/11, Past and Future

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) August 18, 2011

Henley-Putnam University’s next free webinar, “A Decade of Developments in Strategic Security,” (https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/668887482) will take an in-depth look at important changes and significant advancements in the multi-faceted field of strategic security in the past ten years since September 11, 2001.

On Thursday, August 25th, Henley Putnam University faculty and advisory board members will discuss significant changes in their respective fields of intelligence management, terrorism and counter terrorism, and strategic security and protection management.

The University will tap into the wealth of knowledge and expertise currently on staff. Speakers will include:

Greg Schneider, internationally recognized security and counter terrorism specialist, former security analyst under world renowned terrorism expert Prof. Yonah Alexander, and former career soldier with the elite Israel Defense Forces, involved in counter terrorism missions as well as the protection of national security assets.
Dr. Robin Thompson, former federal Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations assigned to AFOSI HQs, first responder to the Pentagon crash site and currently the Lead Counterintelligence Special Agent for NASA at the Langley Research Center.
Lieutenant Colonel David Lon Walker, US Army Military Police Corps, former commander of the 385th Military Police Battalion in Stuttgart Germany, former Department of Defense Liaison Officer to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Washington, DC and former chief of police.

This esteemed panel of experienced individuals will be led in the webinar discussion by Moderator, Joe McDonald, who has an extensive background in many aspects of the security profession, including overseeing and conducting vulnerability assessments of critical federal and state infrastructure, and ensuring the protection of those infrastructures. Mr. McDonald serves on the Nevada Homeland Security Commission, Committee on Critical Infrastructure Protection. He also has experience in law enforcement as a contract special investigator to various federal agencies. Mr. McDonald is currently on the Board of Directors for ASIS International, the preeminent organization for security professionals.

“Henley-Putnam University was founded after ten years of arduous planning and research, and before the tragic events of September 11th, 2001,” stated Jim Killin, the University’s CEO. “In the post-9/11 era, security and protection concerns have risen to unprecedented levels. There’s an increased focus on physical security and intelligence-gathering on a local, state and national level in order to secure and protect personnel, data and facilities from terrorist attacks, workplace violence and other security threats. This trend has greatly increased the demand for intelligence, counterterrorism, and protection personnel in both the public and private sectors. It has never been more important that those professionals have the very best training available.”

“Violent extremism is a complicated challenge for the United States,” said President Obama in his White House paper, ‘Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States,’ released August 3, 2011. Moderator Joe McDonald commented, “In that light, I’m pleased to be working with Henley-Putnam University, which maintains a sole focus on strategic security, and educates tomorrow’s professionals in the identification and deterrence of terrorist attacks and other threats to our nation’s security.”

The second webinar to be held Sept 15, will continue with this topic but it will be forward looking. The panel will discuss their own opinions and predictions of what to look for in the coming years.
