What leadership experience does McCain have on national security?

Question by ElDarado05: What leadership experience does McCain have on national security?
I dont know any specifics. All I know was he was in the Navy and a POW but I don’t think that “experience” alone qualifies to be translated to presidential potential and leadership to make hard foriegn policy and national security choices. I know Obama does not have that experience either but rather running on a judgment platform. Anyway… what has McCain done for people to think he would have such a wise foreign policy and national security judgement.

Someone enlighten me please.
Also, I dont think visiting countries qualifies as experience either.

  • good post im gonna keep my eye on this. Considering the president, vp, sec of def, sec of homeland security, army generals, and the media have all said this is a war unlike any before of its kind and we are dealing with a threat like none of which we encountered before. I guess if you played baseball you automatically know how to play rugby or anything related to using a ball

  • As General Wesley Clark has stated “McCain lacks the executive experience necessary to be president, calling him “untested and untried”

He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee. And he has traveled all over the world. But he hasn’t held executive responsibility. That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded — that wasn’t a wartime squadron,” Clark said.

“I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.”

McCain led the charge to get rid of Rumsfeld and start the extremely successful surge! That should be enough right there, but…

  • As the son and grandson of distinguished Navy admirals, John McCain deeply values duty, honor and service of country. John attended college at the United States Naval Academy, and launched a 22-year career as a naval aviator upon his graduation. He continued the McCain tradition of service to country passed down to him from his father and grandfather when he asked to serve in the Vietnam War.

Yes, he has had experience in the service of our country and has a long family history of service.

  • McCain sang a catchy tune of “bomb, bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran”.
soon as he got the GOP nod went to the most militant of Israel to stir up trouble between them and Iran.

and the far right claims OBAMA CAN talk people into following his ideas even if there’s nothing to them!

WHO do YOU THINK can do FOREIGN POLICY?

  • If Welsy Clarke thinks McCain lacks the expeirence that says even less of Obama who’s only trip out of the country was to rural America where people cling to guns and religion.

Whatever Clarke says about McCain’s qualifications in terms of military leadership.. keep in mind that in that regard, McCain is lighht years more qualified than Obama

  • He’s been a senator and congressman for over 25 years. He was the chairman of the Armed Services Committee at one point of time until Hillary took over. He’s part of the foreign relations committee, the Judiciary Committee and billions of other brackets. He’s fought in alot of wars and been deputy general which means that he knows war tactics. This is A LOT of experience, my pal.

  • mccain has always been on the money in iraq, he has certainly shown a superior strategic understanding of war than Sen.’i have complained about everything, so this qualifies me for president’ Obama.

  • He served in the navy, he commanded squadron of warships. He has been in the Senate for almost three full terms now and has sat in the Senate Armed Forces Committee for almost two full terms.

  • The Media would like you to believe POW = Experience
wrong….. its high time we realize just how little power a president REALLY has.
The powers that be will narrow the field to the selected PLAYERS of thier power trip agenda and choose our president for us, thats why the popular vote is not counted.
deligates are chosen for a reason and can be disinfranchised just as fast if you dont play by their rules.
McCain and Obama are both members of the council on foreign relations, they both serve the same masters….. the worldbank and IMF…… the same people responsible for our high energy crisis.
