Steve Kilbey, 55, puts on a good "intense" face. I guess he’s had over 30 years to practice that, having been in The Church for 29 yrs, and several bands before that. He did this for a lot of the pictures.

I also influenced his stage talk during the show… He talked about a foot getting cut off in Virginia Beach (shark attack) when he vacationed there… So I said they found it in Canada, referring to all the severed feet that keep appearring in Canada. He was about 3 feet away from me, and then he said that on the microphone. Awesome.

BACKSTORY: It kicked ass to see The Church a 2nd time, after waiting 19 yrs! We were at the very front and center of the stage! We got to meet Steve Kilbey and Marty Willson-Piper, as well as getting pictures with both, and Marty’s autograph! They also liked that I was wearing a 19-year-old shirt from their 1990 Gold Afternoon Fix tour!

Marty Willson-Piper was really friendly. Apparently he’s been banned from some D.C. club. Some other fans were swapping stories with him — they had put his guitar in their trunk and driven him somewhere. One of them had seen The Church 5 times!

I got to tell Marty Willson-Piper the story of how my freshman highschool classmate Matt McKnight got me into The Church. Matt, an very interesting character when I knew him, told me I should listen to this. I asked him what kind of music it was. "Guitar" was his only response. I copied his cassette of Starfish that night, and have been a fan for 19+ yrs since.
