@jetboyj22Secondly, it only passed by 3 votes. not 9. 216 was the number they needed so they had 4 more over what they needed. You do not understand politics because Pelosi, once she knew she had the votes needed to pass it. she allowed democrats in tough reelection districts to vote against it. This happens in a lot of votes in the house and both sides use this ploy.

@jetboyj22..Deem and pass did not happen because they had the votes per Stupak’s agreement not because of the hillbillies outside the house spitting and shouting racial epitaphs. It was an option considered but Stupak came through. It are really naive if you think that democrats bribe their side. look at Delay and Dick Armey’s tactics when they had the floor. Keeping a 15 minute vote opened for 3 and 1/2 hours until they needed the votes necessary to pass their bills.

Deem and pass didn’t happen because the people went berserk at the prospect of such a ridiculous rule “passing” a contentious bill. The “straight up and down vote” included earmarks and bribes for reluctant democrats, and it still only passed by 9 votes (it was 220 to 211). Do you honestly think the founding fathers intended for sweeping, contentious bills to be passed with a mere 51% to 49% vote, or would they have favored a more united, bipartisan approach?

@EffieReal Sorry but I thought that it was Bush who pushed low interest loans without any security after 911 . He pushed for the big car makers to drop interest and keep consumer confidence up . I understood that there were real fears of a recession after that point . Prior to the full market collapse we were told of ” naked trading “, and other insane practices . You incorrectly assign blame for economic collapse on the “crooked bankers”. You have no idea of the collusion between the Democrats, Barney Frank in particular who effectively FORCED the banks to give loans to people who could not repay them. The DEMS engineered the housing bubble and collapse.
