JFK: Church and State

Listen to my boy JFK here give his speech in 1960 when he was a Senator running for the Presidency and was getting a lot of heat from people(like Romney now) because he was Catholic and the US had never had a Catholic President before. People were worried that the Vatican was going to sway JFK’s actions as President. The people were wrong as he explains here in this video of him talking before the Houston’s Ministers Conference.

There will never be a total separation of church and state so long as people vote according to the morals of their faith; politics will never be secularized as some hope.

  • Seperation of Jesus Christ and state is offensive and ridiculous. The world and everything in it belongs to Jehova. Jesus is in the Father and the Father in him. Hope everyone enjoys the air they breath, the water they drink, the food they eat, etc. Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you observations and thoughts wholeheartedly. Best wishes.

  • Somep people complained about his money, social status, and Camelotization of Washington; desn’t matter. It doesn’t even matter if he believed what he was saying, which many think he did. What mattered most is he said it; what’s more, for the benefit of America and its people. It is truly a sad shame America has still never reaped the benefit of what he had sown prior to his untimely death. PT 109 too.

  • I agree with you. The State should never be ran by a Religious authority. That is why my Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, does not hold any political opinions, and does not promote any one candidate.

In my ward alone, I would bet there are more Liberals than Conservatives. I’m a Conservative myself, but I respect everyones differences:)

    Peace brother: )

  • Lv 19:18 You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

    Simple commandment there brother.

Besides, I don’t see how Mitt Romney is a liar……

as long as it’s not Mitt Romney (who is a lying two faced scumbag in my opinion) I’ll consider voting for said Mormon. But yes there will someday be a Mormon president

  • Hey hey, don’t forget a Mormon President!LOL

Yeah, your absolutely right in that message you wrote. So true:)

  • He really was. The words he spoke about my Church, are some of the best I’ve ever heard a President say.

I believe him to be a true Catholic. He would have made a better Mormon(lol), but I have no doubt he knew Christ was our redeemer.

  • He’s a honor to all religious people.

Thank God JFK’s belief in an America where the Separation of Church and State is Absolute did NOT die with him.

Some day America will elected a Jewish President, an Islamic President, and an Atheist President just as we broke the Catholic barrier with JFK and this country will be a better place for it.

Freedom of Religion, regardless of the faith in question is one of this countries most sacred rights.

    I’m a christian but I believe religion+state=MESS

Why? because people are manipulated. Not only happen in this country but also in the middle east or wherever religion is mix to politics to govern the peoples lives.

It’s called broadcaster dialect. It’s not really how he spoke informally but when he made public addresses he used that accent because it’s one that is generally understood all across the U.S.

  • All us IRISH are very proud of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. In our own country the British discriminated and demonised us for being IRISH. Thanks JFK for what you stood for.

Wonderful speech. It’s a shame that almost no political leader except Pres. Obama will give a speech like this. Seriously, it’s simply stunning to note the differences in this speech from the “Faith In America” speech by Mitt Romney (who said that we can’t have freedom without religion). JFK’s speech speaks to every American citizen, not just the ones who believe in a particular god.

  • he has the coolest accent any president’s ever had..

ROFLMAO. The most bizarre image ever just popped into my head at that comment. I mean…black and white TV!

  • Cameron816, Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is. Money can easily flow in and out of your hands if you allow it to, it is the unfortunate enticing desire to have something special or make life easier that causes us to have love for money, which in turn, developes the roots to be stronger. such as its symptoms like greed, deciet, forgery.

  • There is a distinction between the Church and GOD. The States had its place and so does the church. Religious clergy should play the back secular issues!

  • I’ve never heard this speech. Thank you for posting it. We need more rational men like this in public office.

    WOLF…

I know what you’re saying! But in the end all we’ve got is our personal integrity & dignity. We’re up against a world that doesn’t read or think anymore.

On the other hand, in spite of it all, I’ve made ‘friends’ with a charming, incredibly bright 14 year-old girl from the US midwest through the medium of YouTube. The likes of her renew my dwindling faith in the capacity of man to renew himself. So does my wife, whose selfless devotion to me & my 2 daughters, I can only marvel at.
