How did Jehovah’s Witnesses yield the most important decisions regarding FREEDOM OF RELIGION,PRESS, and Speach

Question by brian_kersey: How did Jehovah’s Witnesses yield the most important decisions regarding FREEDOM OF RELIGION,PRESS, and Speach
In the United States of America and several other countries, the legal struggles of the Jehovah’s Witnesses have yielded some of the most important judicial decisions regarding freedom of religion, press and speech. In the United States, many Supreme Court cases involving Jehovah’s Witnesses are now landmark decisions of First Amendment law. Of the 72 cases involving the Jehovah’s Witnesses that have been brought before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Court has ruled in favor of them 47 times. “The cases that the Witnesses were involved in formed the bedrock of 1st Amendment protections for all citizens,” “Jehovah’s Witnesses have done more to help preserve our freedoms than any other religious group.”
So those ones who believe Jehovah’s Witnesses are bad or a problem, think again……If not for them, some of your very rights and freedoms you have today would not exist.Think about it…….

  • Interesting. If their impact is in the courtroom then I’d rather they go there than ring my doorbell.

  • I believe Jehovah’s Witnesses are just doing their level best to preserve the separation of Church and sate- and more power to them!

  • Jehovah’s Witnesses and freedom of speech.

They will extol and preach *God’s Kingdom* and this sounds attractive, what they obfuscate from you is their Watchtower society version that….. Jesus has already had his second coming in 1914 and is working *invisibly* exclusively through them. They have won 37 of their 46 US Supreme court cases assuring us all of freedom of speech and assembly and equal protection under the law.
The sad irony is that the Watchtower Society *daily* abuses the human rights of thousands of its members. It denies current members the right of free speech by forbidding them to speak to former members, even close family members. And it denies former members their right of freedom of worship by refusing to allow them to leave the religion with dignity, should they come to disagree with Watchtower’s practices or doctrines.

The religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses is an oppressive cult that controls every aspect of its members’ lives.

  • how did they?? Good lawyers and a story that never failed. I cannot do __________________ because of my religion.

JW’s cannot give DNA because of their religion which means that police have to sneak it from them. ( i.e. discarded tissue)
So If a JW man is accused of rape, the police cannot take his DNA from him.

I honestly belive that sometmes they are manipulating the system with “rules” that had no conceivabble way to be written at the time.

  • The Watchtower has pursued “freedom of speech” and “freedom of religion” issues for the benefit of the religion as a whole — not for the individual members. The worker bees sent out from the hive are “free” to say exactly what they’ve been told! Jehovah’s Witnesses get *persecuted* but understand that they are also in-your-face aggressive intolerant to other religions and to dissident members.
They are not like Jesus as they claim they are just a fringe cult of apostate bible based doctrines.

  • Go the Jehovah’s Witness ,i think they are very misunderstood.

  • Cannot give DNA? Where would anyone get THAT idea? Not true at all.

  • For more on this subject, anyone interested should see the documentary film titled, “Knocking”.

How have Jehovah’s Witnesses impacted US civil liberties?

  • Because they have deep rooted influences and sympathies.

One of the US presidents was brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness. Anyone who was once a Jehovah’s Witness will always know that the individuals are honest and not out to pull a fast one and would not flag something up if they thought it was a trivial matter.

I think JWs are ok, but I don’t like the way they deliberately will not associate with people unless it is for the purposes of preaching or so as to work so as they have the means to preach. They are too disciplined, so not right for me.

    ok me have bad english

  • Vot is YET to watch “Knocking”…… I doubt there’s anywhere I can watch it online for free (legally)

Yes, as much as people may not like to admit it, they owe the JWs a BIG Thank You.
