I don’t get why Liberals believe it’s okay to forcefully tax one individual and redistribute their income to help another individual. It’s not helpful since force is being applied. It be like making it illegal to pass someone down the street who’s car is broken down and you must aid them or face legal penalty.
Liberals are supposed to be for Liberty, which is supposed to equate Freedom. There is no freedom in coercive action.
By the way, Austrian Libertarianism isn’t affiliated with the country. Rather it’s founders, please read about Keynesian vs Austrian Economics if you’re interested.
Example of Liberals and Coercive action would be Obama’s mandatory purchase of health insurance, forcing instead of giving them an option.

We got stuck paying taxes to fight an unjust war that we didn’t want. You’re going to be forced to pay taxes (or buy health insurance) to pay for some poor kid’s health insurance.

Why don’t you ask the same of conservatives? Social programs exist under both parties. We pay tax and the government distributes it among all sorts of program. That is called income tax.

You know what? You are clueless. Taxes keep our infrastructure intact, OK? That means things like “roads” and “bridges”. Taxes are also needed to support the military, and all kinds of other things that are critical to our well being. And as far as making it a law that people buy health insurance? Well the fact is that people with no health insurance are still carted off to the ER and still get cared for, and when they don’t pay, who do you think the cost is passed on to? ME! So screw you! Maybe once you are off your parents health insurance you’ll get a clue.

It’s too bad people like you selectively read history and have never taken a sociology class in your life. Wealth is not something you magically pull out of your a.ss. It’s a synthesis of natural wealth (natural resources – which should, theoretically, belong to everyone, but which are commodified and sold in capitalism), opportunity and cultural capital (education), luck, and labor. The infrastructure and resources which you take advantage of to better yourself were provided by PEOPLE WHO CAME BEFORE YOU who put their money into a single pot (taxes) to create structures and services that would benefit everyone. YOU are taking advantage of other people’s wealth simply by virtue of having been born and raised in this country. Your giant successful businesses use other people’s wealth all the time. They use the roads, water, electricity, and police force to prevent theft of their private property in order to make money. They ruin MY environment by dumping crap into it because it’s cheaper for them. Without basic taxpayer-funded services, there would be no capitalism. This is why nations like Haiti and Africa cannot develop out of squalor: PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES REQUIRE GOVERNMENT INFRASTRUCTURE.
Capitalism thrived in past centuries on the forcible theft of land from native peoples and on slavery enforced by violence. No freedom in coercive action? This economic system is based largely on coercive action, perhaps even more so today when we no longer have an economy based on wealth from actual durable goods and objects and instead have to commit outright fraud like Goldman Sachs to make money. Our system is glorified theft.

i don’t get why certain conservatives want to kick poor people while they are down. class warfare. how can you possibly claim giving poor people housing instead of homelessness, or food stamps instead of starving, etc is not helpful to them? the benefit to them is much greater than the inconvenience of me or you being taxed. marginal utility. from what i recall, the alternative offered by nonsensical austrian “economics” is that instead of government, a massive new charity infrastructure would magically appear out of nowhere to solve these problems. this would be very inefficient if it were to even appear in the first place. donations would fluctuate with the economy, so in down times when the help is most necessary, the funds would be least available. charitable donations would have to go through the roof to even work in the first place. realistically what we’d see is an increase in homelessness, crime, starvation. people don’t choose to be poor. in some areas it would work well, in others we’d have third world countries in america.
