The American Dream and Capitalism – Integral Parts of Our Constitution

It is no accident or manifestation of random luck that the United States is the single greatest economic power ever to grace the planet as a sovereign nation. It is no accident, because our founding fathers had a vision of a nation in which government played a very small role in commerce and an even smaller role in the lives of its citizens. The necessity for a small federal government and independent sovereign states/governments, kept together by a voluntary agreement that became our constitution, was crucial to the success of the country. Our founding fathers knew that it was important to curtail the growth of government and so our founding document’s purpose was to ensure the federal government be kept in check. Three branches of government were introduced and made part of the constitution in order to create a checks an balance on each separate branch of government. Yes, our great nation, the greatest economic power the world has ever known, was made possible by the well thought-out intentions of a few great visionaries so many, many years ago.

John Locke, Adam Smith and Thomas Hobbes, philosophers and economists created the conceptual framework that become interwoven into the Constitution of the United States of America. Our founding fathers embraced their ideas and their principles. Life, liberty and the right to own and keep private property out of the hands of government, were the building blocks of our nation. Freedom for people to govern themselves and the necessity to create a firewall between government and the private sector are constitutional mandates.

The very idea of separating government and the private sector was extraordinary and, yes, intentional. That government must not be allowed to interfere with the private sector (laissez-faire) was, from the outset of our nation, a key ingredient in our founders recipe for creating a new nation, the likes of which the world had never seen. These principles of life, liberty and the right to own and keep private property out of the hands of government are the bedrock of this great nation and are often referred to as the American Dream or Democratic Capitalism. Yes, capitalism. Unfettered capitalism means government cannot interfere with the private sector economy. It was an intentional constitutional mandate.

For a time, this constitutional mandate remained in place. And for a long time, and as a result, America flourished. Then came the Great Depression. The Great Depression changed everything. It opened the door for governmental control and interference with the private sector economy. Once that door was cracked open, governmental legislators (our employees) plowed through the door and forced upon us a flood of bureaucratic tyranny (numerous, repressive laws), not seen since the English monarchy attempted to flex its might in an effort to reign in the thirteen colonies at the end of the 18th century.

Contrary to what many believe, the Great Depression was not caused by the stock market crash of 1929. While this crash was certainly devastating to the economy at the time, it was not the cause of the worst economic event in U.S. history. Rather, it was the government’s interference in the private sector that brought about a recession that became a depression. The Smoot-Hawley Act was intended to protect the livelihoods of American farmers by imposing importation restrictions on agricultural products coming from foreign nations. As soon as the private sector got wind of this legislation, even in proposed form, it reacted violently and the stock market crashed in 1929. But then, Smoot-Hawley hit a bump in the legislative road and, thinking this legislation would die on the vine, the stock market rallied and commerce re-started itself. But Smoot-Hawley was not dead. It re-emerged and became law in 1930. Once again the stock market plummeted. To make matters worse, President Hoover, proposed, and Congress passed, legislation that created one of the largest tax increases in the nation’s history; an increase in the federal income tax rate from 25% to 63%. Included in this tax increase was a tax on checks. Every check that was drafted was subjected to an excise tax. Not surprisingly, consumers reverted to the use of cash, instead of checks, in an effort to avoid the excise tax they could ill-afford. Runs on the banks began to increase and by FDR’s election in 1933, banks were all but broke and the financial system was in ruins.

FDR, one the most activist of Presidents, saw this as an opportunity to experiment with a new economic concept, known as Keynesian Economics. Keynesian economics argued that in times of an economic downturn, the federal government, though spending measures, could help re-start the economic engine. FDR was a fanatical Keynesian. Law after law was passed creating knew, novel ways to spend our way out of the recession. None succeeded. After ten years of Keynesian economics, the U.S. unemployment rate stood fast at 13%. The Keynesian economic experiment failed and it failed miserably.

Now lets fast forward to October 1987 when, for reasons still unknown, the stock market crashed once again. Ronald Reagan was our President at the time. The year before, 1986, saw the tax cuts he had signed into legislation become the law of the land. How did Reagan react to this crash? He didn’t. He believed the U.S. economy would heal itself and that the newly enacted tax cuts would eventually create an economic boom. Limited government intervention was his response to the 1987 crash. Reagan, it turns out, was spot on. His laissez-faire-Adam Smith approach to the 1987 crash allowed our capitalist economic system to correct itself and the byproduct of his great leadership was an economic boom that lasted almost sixteen years. It is too bad we did not elect a Ronald Reagan in 2009. No doubt his response to the 2008 economic collapse would have been to cut taxes, reduce government spending and get government out of the way of the private sector. No need to experiment with Keynsian economics, as the Reagan model for economic recovery was a tried and true one. But Reagan was not elected. Instead a President bent on re-defining America into the European model, was elected and Keynsian economic experiment was, once again, dusted off and brought into the American economic laboratory. There is little doubt to many true Americans that another try at big government interference with our free market will fail once again.

Then came along the Scott Brown election. The election of Scott Brown was a repudiation of big government, plain and simple. Most Americans believe government is the problem and not the solution. We believe as long as the government stays out of our way, we can prosper as a nation. We do not subscribe to socialist principles. We do not believe in the European Dream. We embrace, instead, the American Dream.

Entries were judged in Elementary School, Middle School and High School categories with the winner in each category earning a free field trip of Historic Philadelphia with The Constitutional Walking Tour for his/her class. Outraged American Whistleblower to Renounce His U.S. Citizenship

Christchurch, New Zealand (PRWEB) February 9, 2005

Harmon Wilfred, an American businessman and exiled whistleblower who has lived in Christchurch, New Zealand since August, 2001, says he will formally renounce his U.S. citizenship on March 1, 2005 to disassociate himself forever with the United States Government and its policies.

Harmon Wilfred says he has been considering the value of his U.S. birthright for many months and made a final decision to renounce his U.S. citizenship shortly after the inauguration of President George W. Bush for a second term of presidency. However, he says his decision which is permanent and irreversible, is far more than a political gesture.

“I was raised to believe – and believed fervently- that the United States is the land of the free and the home of the brave. But the actions of the United States Government in recent years, and my own personal experience, have undermined my respect for the U.S. to the extent that I no longer want to be an American.”

Wilfred plans to make a statement of renunciation before a U.S. consular officer in Auckland, New Zealand and will live as a “stateless individual” while he and his Canadian wife, Carolyn, are being considered for New Zealand residency.

Since arriving in New Zealand to invest in new technologies, Wilfred has been involved in the development of wireless data transmission, Broadband Powerline communication (BPL) and Internet telephony). He also oversees the development of humanitarian projects on behalf of his wife’s estate and is currently working with several charitable trusts to trial his newly proposed family/community support initiative in Christchurch, NZ.

Wilfred says he is confident his record of achievement in business and community support will make him and his wife strong candidates for New Zealand citizenship but plans to also offer himself to the world at large as an “honest and productive citizen”.

He believes the United States has reached a dangerous point in its history with what he calls an extravagant, self serving and dysfunctional government at the lead. “While over 2 billion people are starving around the world and 35.9 million Americans are living below the poverty line with 2 million literally homeless, we see $ 880 million US dollars spent on an election campaign and 60 million dollars expended on an inauguration ceremony for the winner; all the while American families are being ripped apart and impoverished in every U.S. State by a twisted family court system and the government would have us believe that this excessive and abusive way of life is sacrosanct.

“Americans are literally brain-washed by paid political spin doctors into believing that they live in a representative democracy when in actual fact today, the US system is nothing more than a politically corrupt form of special interest capitalism. Around the globe we’re seeing the US Government act unilaterally and in its own interests while in direct defiance of the legal authority of the United Nations, in the deluded belief that it is delivering freedom and democracy in places where it has no moral or legal mandate.”

“I can no longer be a party to this kind of lawlessness, dishonesty, waste and hypocrisy.” Wilfred’s hope is that the irrevocable renouncing of his U.S. citizenship on principle will become a wakeup call to all Americans.

Financial Freedom Academy Announces $2 Million Dollar Grand Prize for the “Chasing the American Dream” Competition

(PRWEB) February 27, 2007

Financial Freedom Academy announces $ 2 million dollar grand prize for the “Chasing the American Dream” competition.

America is known for being the land of opportunity, the place where all of your dreams can come true. But, for many Americans the “American Dream” has turned into a living nightmare. They work longer weeks, take fewer vacations, and due to circumstances they cannot control still lose ground financially.

According to researchers, bankruptcy is at all time highs. Many people spend more than they earn financing their lifestyles with credit cards or other loan type instruments. The small glimmer of hope for most people comes in the form of games of chance and luck.

The rise of popular game shows and reality like “American Idol”, “Survivor”, “Deal or No Deal”, “1 vs. 100”, or “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, show a sign of the times of people looking for any opportunity to change their life. Unfortunately, for most people that aspire to these shows, or look for equally tough ways to make it (such as winning the lottery, the odds are just to great for them to even make it to the main event let alone win).

For the first time ever, there is a competition that almost everyone can be guaranteed a spot in.

“The Chasing the American Dream” competition is unique for several reasons. First, there are no random cuts based on judge’s opinions. Everything is based on the numbers. Next, every participant will taught exactly how to excel on every module of the competition, and allowed to ask questions.

The modules of the competition are all based on elements of financial success that everyone should know to become financially successful. A few examples of the modules are “making money in real estate,” “how to control when you pay taxes,” “making money online,” etc.

“The reason I am so excited about this competition is because everyone wins, not just the people who claim the $ 2 Million Dollar prize. But, everyone who participates is almost guaranteed to change their life financially,” says James Sherrod, coordinator. “And also it targeted at the people who need the information the most.”

The competition will take place will start April 1st. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

1. You must be a US citizen 18 years or older

2. You must abide by all guidelines of the competition

3. You cannot own real estate holdings outside of your own home

4. You cannot have a stock portfolio outside of your current retirement accounts

5. You cannot currently have a $ 100,000 a year gross income

Interested participants should join the notification list by emailing chasingtheamericandream @ gmail.com, for complete registration details, free financial information, and more.

Disclaimer: Participation in the competition is completely at the risk of the participants. There is no income guarantees other than that of grand prize of the competition. The Financial Freedom Academy, nor any of its affiliates, is not liable for the use of the information presented in anyway. A Republic, If You Can Keep It – The American Form of Government

There is a reason we refer to “the rule of law and not of men” when discussing the American political system. It is because a republican form of government seeks to restrain the unbridled and quixotic passions of pure democracy, rather than yield to them. It also rejects the desire of the majority in favor of individual rights. Democracy seeks to assert the right of the group, but so does a mob with a hangman’s noose. There’s also a reason why lady justice is blindfolded: She is not to see the individuals, interest groups, race, or any characteristic at all of those that plead before her–her proper concern is not directed towards them; her care is to decide the law. It’s also why the question of justice as presented before judges is not one of mercy (that belongs in the will of the people as expressed through their representatives in law), but one of exacting only what the law requires be exacted. The rule of law is all about the removal of arbitrary will from its application. A judge who seeks to apply his own notions of justice and mercy (as opposed to those notions being defined by the people through law) is a judge who seeks to impose arbitrary will in opposition to the rule of law. And it is arbitrary will that is the very definition of tyranny.
