Question by Nancy Pelosi 2016: Do you think America needs a new Constitution to reduce dysfunction and paralysis in the Federal government?
Even in the Federalist Papers, our founding fathers made it rather clear that they didn’t intend for the US Constitution to last for all of eternity.
Has the current Constitution run its course?
Should it be replaced with a new one with more efficient governance?

If we do replace it, I don’t want you to be a delegate at the new Constitutional Convention.

No. America needs a different majority in the Senate – one that cares more about the country than their own power and reelection

That would probably cause a civil war.

No. There should be a public holiday for throwing rotten food at politicians for making themselves and the country they “serve” look bad.

We have never resolved the Hamilton/Jefferson debate around the Necessary and Proper Clause.
Hamilton thought government should do EVERY thing N&P while Jefferson thought JUST what is N&P
Instead of blending the two like any rational person would do, the politicians use this as wedge to get votes.

We need a new constitutional amendment to stop reckless and radical spending.
We should keep the constitution… The only reason America is in such bad shape now is because we no longer follow the constitution.

Actually, the federal government following the constitution would eliminate a lot of our problems. The Constitution is not broken or archaic. It’s the constant abuse of the system that is in need of repair.

Have you even read and understood the Federalist Papers?
The Founding Fathers allowed that the Constitution could be changed by way of amendments, we have had several changes to the document.
What we need is a revolution, and soon. Thomas Jefferson said that we should have a revolution somewhere around every 15 years or so. This he intended was to ensure that we did not have career politicians.

No, we could benefit from our leadership returning to the original intent of the Constitution. The federal government was never meant to be this big, the states were meant to retain their sovereignty. No state should suffer economically just because the federal government can’t figure things out. We don’t need a new constitution, we just need to wake up and realize that we aren’t really living under the one that we have.

I don’t think so. The way our culture is corrupted today, we would never get the Bill of Rights and the fourteenth amendment back 🙁

Replacing the entire Constitution with a new Constitution would be tantamount to throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
We need several amendments to the Constitution defining the rules for filibusters, either replacing or putting strenuous oversight on the Federal Reserve, putting restrictions on holds on nominees to Federal positions, establishing a Constitutional right to privacy to protect individuals and groups from intrusive and unwarranted searches, abolishing the Electoral College and moving to a direct election for the President — but there is a great deal of good in the Constitution we have and throwing it out and replacing it entirely would not be a good idea.
