Conservatives: where does it say in the constitution that business enterprise has the same rights as a citizen?

because that’s what every corporation is allowed to do here: if one forms a corporation, than that corporation, for legal purposes, can act as a citizen.

now where is that protected in the constitution? or is this more typical capitalist/conservative vitriol in adding stuff to the constitution that isn’t there?
NO WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION DOES IT SAY COMPANIES CAN HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS CITIZENS!!!
@anthony: but at the same token, the government can’t just grant citizenship to non-living entities.
@mark: it’s a private institution, they can give aid to whoever they feel, if it’s non-profit.

Private property is private property. Either you believe in it or you dont. Its as simple as that.

Where does it say that health care is a right?

Where does it say that government can regulate the market?

Nowhere. If it isn’t directly enumerated then it is left to the states; the tenth amendment makes that clear.

EDIT- Correct, however it does have to respect property rights, which was why Rand Paul opposed part of the CRA (I know, off topic).

  • I guess a CEO isn’t a person? Think about it for a moment. This is how the supreme court seen it as well.

I know its sad. I hate special interest politics..

The courts determined that the constitution allows it. If you have issues with a court decision you should take it up with the courts. Don’t blame the conservatives, it wasn’t their decision.

  • If that was true then no business could ever buy another. That would be a violation of the thirteenth amendment.

And every corporation would have the right to vote in an election.

I am not sure it does. I would not agree with this.

  • Read the SCOTUS’s ruling in Gore v. BMW of North America, 1996, and then stop ranting as if conservatives are the only ones who talk that way.

  • No where in the Constitution does it say the government can force people to buy insurance.

But I bet you have no problem with this because your God 0sama said it was ok.

  • It was a very sad day when this happened!

But I don’t think it had anything to do with “conservatives”.

Don’t you listen to the president? The constitution is a list of negative rights- as in, what the government can’t do. It says in the tenth amendment that if it isn’t in the constitution it’s reserved to the states or citizens.
Corporations aren’t allowed to vote, so your question has no merit. But anybody should be able to give any amount of money to anyone else. The government has no business dictating anything.

It does not say it anywhere, and you know what else? the constitution also does not give congress the right to have the
    Department of Energy
    EPA
    Department of Energy
    Department of Agriculture
    IRS
and many many many other federal departments.

In fact, the constitution is actually against federal departments! the 10th amendment specifically says so!
“The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution’s principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states by the Constitution of the United States are reserved to the states or the people.”

THIS MAKES EVERY FEDERAL DEPARTMENTS UN CONSTITUTIONAL !

  • There is nothing in the constitution which gives corporations the rights of citizens. for example, a corporation cannot vote nor can it obtain a passport. Corporations are viewed as artificial beings having limited rights. The constitution does allow for free enterprise which in turn allows corporations.

I have no idea where you get the notion corporations can act as citizens. I assume you have never read the constitution other wise you wouldn’t be making such statements. There is no “typical/conservative vitriol”, only a lack of understanding on your part.

It is because of corporations you have a computer to type on, coffee in the morning, a tv to snooze by and Prozac which you appear to desperately need.

It doesn’t, but the party of the constitution CONVENIENTLY forgets that fact
