The new Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives has promised to read the entire U.S. Constitution on January 6th, as a prelude to its getting to work on new legislation.

And what about the rest of Americans?

If citizens are going to hold elected leaders to the letter of the Constitution, they need to know what it says. Unfortunately, the Constitution was written with long, long sentences, many subordinate clauses, and seldom-heard legal terms. And most sources are in fine print.

Many citizens have long ago forgotten their 10th grade American civics class and the analysis of the Constitution. Or they may have slept through it at the time as one of the most dense and therefore, boring of topics. Or perhaps they never had such a course.

Twelve percent of the population of the United States is foreign born. This is another important segment of Americans who have no clear understanding of what the Constitution is. They’ve come here for the benefits of the Constitution, and studied enough to pass a citizenship test. But limited English kept them from getting a full view of the Constitution.

Elizabeth Claire’s purpose in providing the Constitution in Simple English is to give all Americans a fresh starting point in reading the Constitution. It is written on a reading level suitable for eighth-grade students and for new speakers of English at a high-intermediate level. The Constitution in simple English does not in anyway “dumb down” the original document, which stands directly next to it. Claire’s version contains a brief historical introduction and summary. Reading the Constitution “in translation” will help Americans appreciate the remarkable foundation of the U.S. government. This is a necessary first step in fulfilling civic duties.

Claire, who has a master’s degree in Teaching English as a second language, and 40 years of experience, is the author of 26 texts and teacher resource books in her field, and is the founder and publisher of Easy English NEWS, a monthly newspaper for English language learners.

Like citizenship and freedom and the right to vote and to appear in public places?

Shouldn’t we follow members of the Tea Party who want to repeal these special rights?

Tom Tancredo – Voting rights

Isn’t it time we stopped all these “special rights” liberals keep giving them over REAL Americans?

Facebook, Social Networks and Israel’s National Security Discussed

During the short war between Hezbollah and Israel the social networks came alive calling for peace. Many teenagers on sites like Facebook were all in a buzz over the faked pictures of civilians being killed in air raids. Of course anyone who knows how terrorist organizations work knows that these groups use humans as shields. Even hiding behind hospitals and schools while shooting rockets into Israel, then if an Israeli helicopter shoots back, they have a bunch of people lie down pretending to be dead and bring in the cameras.

Still, with all this going on and many close to the scene knowing this, the kids on these social networks think they are somehow saving lives by calling for the end of war? Yet, they fail to call Hezbollah to stop firing rockers into Israel. A similar situation happened during the Hamas conflict last year and these things keep occurring. Not only do these terrorist organizations use the media to recruit and propagandize, now they are using online social networks tapping into the youth of the world.

These kids do not realize that in essence they are supporting terrorists and they do not understand. Many kids in the USA have joined in solidarity with the terrorist groups. One can only wonder that if they lived in a US Border city and rockets were being shot into their city they might think differently. Now the Israeli Intelligence Service has issued a warning to its citizens.

It appears that terrorist groups are trying to get younger citizens to come and meet with the opposition to the Jewish state to kidnap them, hold them as bargaining chips or recruit them to work within Israel against their national interests. In fact, there have now been cases of people on Facebook offering money for information within Israel.

No one should be surprised at this new development, as these social networks have been doing this on an on-going basis for quite a while now. Only now it’s getting even more serious. A Short History of US Law and Constitution

Law is generally defined as a system of rules and regulations that are equal for everyone and are enforced through a set of institutions. The political system, economy and society are shaped by it in numerous ways and serves as a primary social mediator of relations between people. The US constitution is its supreme law and is the base of the legal authority for the existence of US and the federal government of the United States.

The history of law is very old and it began since the start of mankind even before the time when written laws and courts had ever existed. Ancient Greece, Egypt and in Babylonia of Mesopotamia region thousands of years back had their laws. The US started a movement for its constitution after getting independence from the British.

Customary laws dictated human actions for a long time by reflecting the conduct of people to each other. The natural law was discovered following the customary law. The United States Constitution is the shortest and oldest written constitution still in use by any nation in the world today.

The framework for the organization of the US government and for the relationship of the federal government to the states and its people was provided in the constitution. Although the Declaration of independence was a statement of principles but it did not form a government or a political framework to show how the governance would be done. The US had been practicing governance for a long time before the Declaration of Independence but the concept of sovereignty of people in the republic was new.

There were also commercial and trade laws that existed in the Middle Ages through which trade and transactions in Europe were governed. They were suitable for certain standards for normalizing the international trade. The constitution of the United States was the source for establishing a strong central or federal government with broad powers to regulate relations between the states and with sole responsibility in such areas as foreign affairs and defense.

The 20th century historians are of a view that legal history is a more contextualized mode that is more in line with the thoughts of social historians. The US constitution has three branches – executive judicial and. Legislative. In addition, it has two houses – upper house and lower house.

The case law and civil codes were achieved by analyzing different aspects of the case results. Different parameters like social science investigation, statistical methods, analyzing class differences, petitioners and players in varied legal processes were used by legal historians to evaluate the case histories.

Do You Know What The Constitution Says?

Have you taken the time to reflect on how many Americans do not know what our Constitution and Bill of Rights really state about our Rights and Liberties? How many of us can truly say they know what our political leaders can and can not do under the Constitution?

If you take the time to read the Constitution, you can actually read and understand the turmoil and growth that our country had  gone through. While far from perfect, our country and it’s citizens is preferable to others in the world. Our country is still young, and with that comes growing pains. Have we treated all of our citizens fairly from the beginning? Absolutely not, but we are learning!

The question is, do we continue to let our so called leaders both in state and the national level, treat us like children, to dumb to understand how everything works. The answer is NO! As an American, we all need to take the time to read the Constitution and understand what it says. Forearmed is Forewarned. If we know what it says, then our so called leaders can simply pat us on the head and have us sit in a corner quietly.

Schools should be teaching our future generation about the builders of our Constitution. There should be an emphases on making sure our children understand how our government is supposed to work. Too many young people have no idea what the Bill of Rights or the Constitutions even means to them, both as individual an as a whole.

America needs to wake up and start letting our leaders know that we are not going to sit idly by and let them destroy a document that past generations have fought and died for. Americans have wrestled with the true meaning of the Constitution and have grown both as a country and as a People. While not perfect, we are a work in progress. We will not let them destroy our future or the future of our children.

Take the time to read and understand this vital document. If not for yourself, then for future generations.
